According to BT yesterday,

The $75K you pay for the Chery here can buy you......

PORSCHE BOXSTER Black Edition ($71K - US$55.2K) in the US

MERCEDES BENZ SLK ($53k - 33 pound sterling) in England

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 1.4TSI ($61k - MR$150k) in Mudland

And for price of a 520i ($250K) BMW, you will be driving a Ferrari Calfornia (the one SMRT CEO driving) in the US;

the Lexus LS460 (S$400k) gets you a Rolls-Royce Ghost in the US.

As one minister says, where got inflation? Only new car owners and people renting their apartments.

Bro, what type of car you can buy in Bangkok or KL with S$75K??

The new subaru BRZ cost three times more in singapore than in the states. Smart!

hey this is singapore, the rules of the world do not apply to us, certainly not the prices of cars. we are special, unique, blah blah. Just look at our ministers' pay, the price of so-called public housing and public transportation.

u guys must understand, all the ministar ride are borne by the govt so they have no idea a family sedan will cost.

obvously you dun drive....Sinkieland got no jams meh?

To answer your question....sgd80k can get you an entry level c class Merc

More obviously, you were not caught in a traffic jam in BKK and KL.

S$75K will get you this in Taiwan:

The situation as depicted in the video of Bangkok traffic would be close to about 15 years ago and was very well publicised. Drivers actually had to have containers to hold their urine if necessary. But as regular visitors to Bangkok would know, the the BTM Skytrain system put a stop to all that - although there are still jams like every city in the world.

Except that in Singapore, after paying a few hefty dollars for the ERP, you still got jams - even when going home.

Gov must increase parking rate 300% and road tax 300%.
Take away the ERP. Let the market decide.
Those not fully utilize the car will think 3 time before buy because parking also very costly.
SG parking is really dirt cheap compare to others country.
Many car usage less than 2000km/month. With increase road tax and parking it will made car usage more costly.
Maybe the COE will reduce when less people buying the car.

As mentioned before in the Thailand thread, Thailand cars are not cheap considering they produce many cars here. Anyway for $73 you could get the latest Camry Hybrid (full option) and I think in Singapore it cost almost $200k. In Thailand for $75k you still not able to get any BMW or Benz or Lexus.

I have to say that traffic jam in Bangkok is not what it used to anyway due to my travel I'd say that traffic is worst in Jakarta and Manila even Beijing than in Bangkok.

Re: BT his is what a Chery (S$75K) can buy you elsewhere in the world

So brain washed one....there are jams in every major city....what's your point?

Actually your hatred for PAP is making you sound like a moron!

You can't tell the difference between the different extend of traffic jam? From slight to very heavy traffic jam?

OK, let me quantify. You drive 1 km and take 15 mins vs 1km take 2 hours!! Or just like you never travel on the road overseas?

Maybe it is just you... To you if anything is not white, then it must be black?

Re: BT his is what a Chery (S$75K) can buy you elsewhere in the world

And prices of cars are relevant how?
Is it working to solve the jams here?
And if you think ERP is effective then ERP is also not part of the car selling price.
Btw in other countries not everyone lives in the major cities.

The title of the thread is comparing car prices around the world.
You the fucker who want to come in kow peh and sidetrack to champion your master's policies.

high car prices only stop poor ppl from buying.. rich ppl still buy..

Yes, cars are more expensive in Tokyo, London and New York just as parking fees are more expensive than in Singapore.

Did the ministers hold a knife to the throats of the rich S'poreans and force them to buy a BMW, a Lexus or any Chinese-made car - and to bid for the COE at a higher price?

yeah genius, let see land area of USA 9,826,675 km2, England 130,395 km2, Malaysia 329,847 km2 and Singapore 710 km2.

Added to that are the breakdowns that are caused by the neglect by our multi-millionaire scholars & their friends

Too many Sporeans are still sleeping & not aware of how bad things are here. We are paying far more than what our neighbours are paying & we only get excuses from our world class gov't:(
