Brothers jailed for sex crimes on sister and nieces
Published Dec 16 2010
Two brothers have been sentenced to three years and six months jail for raping their sister and sexually assaulting three young nieces in Hong Kong. The incident occurred over 20 years ago, but was only exposed last year during one of the nieces' wedding.
At that time, the 30-year-old bride was discussing with her twin sisters if she had to serve tea for the uncles according to the Chinese traditions. The twins, also victims, advised her not to do so. Later, they discovered that their aunt was also a victim of the evil uncles.
They lodged a police report. The brothers, who have eventually got married and have children, were arrested on Jan 15. On Wednesday, High Court judge Maggie Poon Man-kay gave the sentence to the convicts - a 43-year-old property management supervisor and 46-year-old taxi driver.
In 1982, the family of Burmese Chinese migrated from Macau to Hong Kong, where the elder brother, then 19, raped and molested his sister – who was only 16. He also sexually assaulted the two elder nieces, who are twins. In 1983, the man kissed the intimate areas of a five-year-old niece. The girl complained to her mother but was only slapped on the face.
Four years later, he attempted to rape the girl but failed. The next year, he woke up one of twins and molested her. Meanwhile, the younger brother - then 17 – also sexually assaulted the three nieces in between 1983 and 1987. The youngest victim was only four when he molested her in 1983.
She was also threatened that she would be bitten by dogs of she told anyone about the incident. All the incidents took place at the house of the brother's grandmother whenever the family got together for Lunar New Year celebrations.
