SINGAPORE: The Workers' Party will not be contesting the by-election in Bukit Batok SMC, triggered by the resignation of People's Action Party Member of Parliament David Ong. This was announced by Workers' Party chairman Sylvia Lim at a Meet-The-People Session in Serangoon on Monday (Mar 14).
On Saturday, Mr Ong announced his resignation, citing "personal indiscretions". He is said to have had an extramarital affair with a grassroots volunteer. Party Whip for the People's Action Party Chan Chun Sing said on Sunday that the party took "decisive action" from the time that it knew about the issue.
