1st they change to distance-based fares and say it's to help you save money...

I am still very puzzled by the 2 (at least for now) issues leeported :
1. Contracts of $260M awarded to vendors : Why and for what the amount was for ? What will the country get for spending this amount ? Do we get the Sports Hub after spending the amount, get some world-class sports facilities.....etc ? Please list down all the contracts awarded for, for accountability.
2. Who approved the more than 3 times cost overruns ? What is the process of due-diligence and the justifications that the amount MUST be appproved ?
I think the YOG committee should publish a detailed account of the entire amount spend since they are using taxpayers' money to fund the event.
Lastly, the supposely 'benefits' as claimed by the committe are (1) amount of tourism expected; and (2) anticipated 'media value'. These 2 are only 'EXPECTED and may not even happen, or may be highly inflated.
Will the committee publish an independently audited account for all the see ? This will be for their good for transparent as well as measure of success for the event.
Any other justifications of goodwill, intangible benefits...blah blah....are just BS and hot airs to glorify their efforts of some nothing-better-to-do ministers or MPs.

a profit of $283 million had totally disappeared as xtra spending! ...
Pardon me, but how did you deduce a 'profit of $283M' ha ?
I thought this is cost overruns, meaning someone pulled a fast one by using a much lower cost/benefit justification to get approval to host the event, then now all worms starts to appear and taxpayers are footing the bills with abosolutely no hope of any benefit.
BTW, did they budget for expensse for making offers to 'invite' all the gold medalists to become citizens, with scholarships, all-living-expenses-paid....etc ? All guardiances for gold medallists be forewarned : Your youngsters may become Singapore citizens after the game !!

You have brought up a very good point. it is normal for countries which have held international events (like Olympics, World cup and World expo) to incur a loss. Because these events usually improve the infrastructure of the country. Stadiums and sporting complexes will be used for future events.
In accounting terms, these costs are capital expenditure. They are items which will go to the balance sheet as assets.
But what happened to the new kallang stadium that was promised? Wasn't the project differed because of budget issues? If that was the case, why did the YOG budget still overrun more than 3 times???
This are valid questions that must be aired in parliament. Every tax paying singaporean must know.

At such a time, it is ridiculous to exceed the budget by such an amount. As there is no free lunch, how are they going to pay for the deficit? Oops, how will we pay for their deficit?
