one of the more successful tourist attractions in recent years was the DHL hot air balloon, but government kicked it out of its site. duck and hippo tours doing well too. the point is - leave it to the private sector. government scholars should all retreat back to their ivory towers and take a long dump.

The problem is: once some private venture starts doing well, the avaricious PAP govt gets jealous and wants to get a slice of the action too. Typically, it would devise some new restrictions or laws to drive it out of business. A good old-fashioned rent hike would also be a good weapon.

Once the private business has been forced out, the govt, under the guise of some dubious shell companies, enter the market and co-opts the business for themselves.
