SINGAPORE: An 18-year-old teenager, who pretended to be possessed by the "Chinese God of Hell" so he could commit rape, has been sent for reformative training.
He will spend between 18 months and three years at the reformative training centre (RTC).
The teenager was 14 at the time of the offences.
He had pleaded guilty in 2011 to two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault by penetration committed between February and April 2008. Eight other charges were taken into consideration.
On each count, he could have been jailed up to 20 years, fined or caned.
Court documents showed that the teenager was inspired by what he saw at a Chinese temple he used to frequent as a child.
At the time of the offence, the accused had shown interest in one of the two victims, but she rejected him.
So he decided to pretend to be possessed by the "Chinese God of Hell" to trick the two girls and force them into submission.
He told the Secondary 3 girls that if they did not comply and have sex with him, their friends would be punished by the "God".
The accused and three other friends, who were 12, 14 and 15 years of age then, used the tactic to get the girls to perform sexual acts on them on several occasions.
In sentencing, district judge Roy Neighbour said the accused was proven mentally and physically fit for reformative training, so the teenager was ordered to be sent to RTC.
Besides these charges, the accused also faces prosecution for traffic offences.
He was charged on Wednesday for driving without a valid licence, driving without valid motor insurance, dangerous driving and failure to render help after an accident.
As for the other three boys, two have been put on probation, while the third has also been sent for reformative training.
