A hard day's work in Singapore for Bangladeshi construction worker Salim used to mean toiling under the burning sun.

But nowadays, at least once a week, he finds himself assigned to a very different kind of 'job' - playing the jackpot machines in the cool air-conditioned comfort of Resorts World Sentosa.

The 29-year-old is one of a number of foreign employees being sent to the casino to gamble on behalf of their employers to feed their own habit, a Straits Times investigation has found.

Five bosses - some with exclusion orders against them - told The Straits Times that they have been handing workers cash, notebooks and mobile phones, then dispatching them to the casino.

They claimed to know several other employers doing the same thing.

The 'proxy gamblers', dressed mostly in company polo T-shirts and jeans, get a cut of the winnings, but if they lose too much, their pay is docked.

we have the kindest employers in the world.

so the boss think that the ah neh will hand in the money when it strike 7 7 7 and not run road back home?

this is worse than gambling addiction. thank you casinos for creating a new breed of monstrous employers and a new breed of sinkie gamblers! soon, not in the far future, many more sinkies will sink further further down the hell of the gambling hole! who cares you die your business! who ask you to gamble...nanbeh sinkies gone nobody bothers!...sinkies die and collapes nobody bothers!...i will be very worried if there are no gambling addicts!!!!

I read the article on ST today. It is rather incredible how the bosses justify their behaviours. One said he is "diversifying his risks by having more players". Another says that he is helping his staff. WTF!

These are hardcore gamblers kanna exclusion clause by their family members.

The boss sounds like Dai Yi Long for their foreign workers, lose money, free labour, LOL

like that where got shiok? i thought the thrill of gambling mean they have to be in the casino personally, asking worker to gamble for them to satisfy their urge does not make senses.

What do you call watching porn and pcc?

gambling by proxy.......who would have think of that!
gambling by proxy existed long time ago in horse racing and football betting. The runners are the proxies but I don't know how they do it in a real casino as the games are entirely different. Horse racing has a 30 mins break and football is 90 mins, where the runners have enough time to take or execute orders. Table games, Roulette, BJ and Bacarrat in Casino is very fast. The duration in between games is 1-2 minutes. Wonder how the Bosses pass instructions to the Banglas what to bet next?

Reminds me of some stupid asses I have come across in casinos: gambler who betted every table in 3 metres radius. He/she evidently believed that the more bettings the more chances of beating the House and the more will be won. Also the opposite is true as the HOUSE has a built-in advantage ie statistical odd which will work against more bets and turnover! The longer you play and more you betted, the faster you go kaputt.................. unless you recognise the luck window and whack hard when it opens and vamoose when it closes.

once in no more instructions but follow the guidelines given before hand: so in case of jackpot - spot the low paying machines; roulette - punt according to given rules or system (which invariably are flawed..).

What kind of newpapaers reporting is this :confused::confused:

actually the system can be beaten mathematically but you need a team and everyone has to be on the same table. its only possible on off peak season

his thinking is right, but his maths is wrong. only on the same table will his odds increase

There's no system to beat the house in casino games unless you cheat. The rules and odds are designed by actuaries to give a house edge. The house edge is not cheating. It's legally approved. The house needs a profit to run the casino. Neither does it mean that you'll always lose. You'll lose some and win some but in the long run everyone on average will lose more than the casino will win. That's the house edge. Another house advantage that most players don't realize - the chips. The house practically prints money to take your bet. You use real money to buy their chips to bet with them. They don't need real money to back their chips as long as you're on the table. The only time you see back real money is when you cash out. So, the longer you stay on the table, the more likely you're going to go broke. Another house advantage is the croupier. They're usually rotated at least once every two hours to maintain peak form of human faculty of alertness.

Good stuff! Bro F!

You play with your own money, the croupier plays with house paper money.

obviously you are not a maths major or science major. just a useless chap cheng kia that never study in school.
take for example blackjacks, as long as the table has more than 7 players on the same side, and all pooled to share the winning and losing. you will beat the banker. go ask your prof (if you ever made it to university) why.
