Bookstores go in book-seller crash
Malaysia Sun
Sunday 29th November, 2009

The BBC has reported that the Borders bookshop chain in the UK has started a closing down sale in all of its 45 stores.

The company went into administration on Thursday.

Administrators for the chain have decided trading should continue until a buyer can be found for the entire group.

While the administrators are hoping to sell to someone who wants to buy a going concern, they have warned liquidation may be the eventual outcome.

Were Borders to be totally liquidated 1,150 jobs would be lost.

I'm not surprised that Borders is closing down. Compared to Kinokuniya, Borders just lack that something that makes finding books there a bit more special. Maybe its the Japanese mei mei that goes to Kinokuniya.

The Singapore branch is doing very well so sure can find a buyer. Kinokuniya if Borders is really selling.

The selection of Singapore books in Kino is so much better than Borders - Borders tended to carry the mild, approved kind of books while Kino carries books by Lily Rahim Ishak, CSJ etc

Borders has too much space but too little book. They are american and children-friendly store. Let's hope they give buyer 50% discound on everybook before they close down. I have in mind what I want to buy already...heheh shall wait for their sales.

Asian Borders stores were sold to an Australian group last year, the one in Wheelock is just carrying the name only, but not owned by Borders.

Hope Kino will take over the Paperchase sales.
