omeprazole or pantaprazole. off the shelf without need for doctor's prescription. take one pill a day until lining on your esophagus heals. once the lining heals, you can stop taking the medication. weakening of esophageal valve at age 45 and above causes acid reflux and gerd as your valve loosens like a overused vagina with age and acidic stomach gases escape upwards through your esophagus. the acidic gases attack the soft vulnerable lining on your esophagus and inflame it causing discomfort and pain. the one-pill-a-day medication neutralizes the acidity and provides relief to your esophageal lining for it to heal by itself over time. your valve will still remain loose with age, thus you need to cut down on acidic, oily and spicy food, beverage and juices. also cut down on alcohol.

Yes, now put on omeprazole medication, at least 2 weeks the doctor says.
Still got some reflux there but not as bad as a week ago. Stomach not so bloated too.
I guess have to really reduce on the coffee intake and spicy food for now:D:D:D

came across a lot of very chio malaysian n local nurses in Singapore.

everytime i visit sg i bring packs of omeprazole and give a pack each of 14 tablets to family and relatives. they don't know about such powerful generic off-the-shelf medication even with sg doctors in the family. my brother who's a doc in sg keeps saying it's stress-related. (sinkie general practioners are quite clueless about how to treat acid reflux, gerd and h. pylori.) anyway, depending on condition and years of suffering (some of the elder pioneer generation "tong" for years without telling anyone) you may need more than 14 days of continuous daily medication. but the most important is to help your body overcome the insurmountable initially and then let it heal on its own, sometimes by building immunity, with proper dieting and change of eating, drinking and exercise regimen and habits. good luck!

....doctors can't figure out this problem, preferring to do endoscopy, I think more to profit from patients predicament.
Your guess on this over-treatment maybe off the mark. For some old folks who get chronic reflux, and if condition worsened off endoscopy will determine if kena inflammation or not (or more jialat tumour). My aged mom got this diagnosis, and had endoscopy within half hour. And put on right meds, with sensible advice on makan

TS, monitor BP regularly as results can yo-yo throughout the day. Depends also if you eyeing some chiobu. Can DIY with small investment for a home B meter (Omron's popular one). Doesn't cost a fortune, and idiot proof. Also "archives" your reading for any period, so you know trend. Also not ignore the pulse rate

for anyone over 50 endoscopy is highly recommended, followed by colonoscopy at age 55. the main cause of stomach cancer among people in asia is the bacterium h. pylori. there are 2 ways to detect h. pylori: a simple breath test that takes only 20 minutes and a biopsy via an endoscopic procedure. i highly recommend all sinkies to have a h. pylori check to eliminate that possibility. the bacteria can infest the duodenal region for decades and result in ulcers in latter years followed by cancer. if the condition is not cancerous yet, the bacteria can be eliminated by a cocktail of potent anti-biotics plus an anti-acid drug such as pantaprazole. if the condition is cancerous, treatment must be sought immediately. there's no time to waste. too many sinkies have perished from stomach cancer because of the ignorance of h. pylori until now.

Symptoms which set off alarm bells for severe reflux (despite chronic burping) include vomiting, nausea, and incoherence. My aged mom kena more than 2X over the years, even hospitalised. And yes, treated with antibiotics and anti-acid meds after diagnosis of ulcer. Meaning this condition and diagnosis are not to be sniffed at. Blood test follow up too (forgot the purpose). Can be skewed by silly eating of bananas (potassium)

is it life threatening ?

chronic... .. that's why i have to go so often

Oh ya i forgot, dental also.

My dentist is in private practise, not hospital. Dunno why his assistant nurse suddenly wore like this during my visit last week. Can see the meat of her bums.
