14 Aug – Chinese singer Fu Li was raped and killed by a courier man, who believed that she was rich because she had made many purchases online.
According to Asian Bite, Fu was raped and killed in her Beijing home on 30 July by the courier Zhang Kunpeng, who lied that he was delivering an item that she bought on the Internet. Zhang had made many similar deliveries to her house before, and decided to rob her. He proceeded to rape her and kill her so that she would not inform anyone.
Fu's body was found by her family later, but Zhang had already fled from Beijing.
He was arrested by police while boarding a train and has admitted to his crime.
Fu's death came as a shock to her friends.
"I was completely in denial. I immediately called a friend who resides in that same community and he confirmed the news," a former manager said.
"I was so sad to hear the horrible news," said Wang Jian, a musician and personal friend of Fu's, "She was like a sister to me, I called her on July 29 to schedule a dinner date and then, all of sudden, she was gone!"
