BEST @ Plaza Singapura Is CLOSING DOWN.

Alamak, that japanese cheese/red bean pan cake moving out too :(

I really think the PAP has finally killed the golden goose.

The signs are everywhere, empty new malls along Orchard Rd, emptying old malls along Orchard Rd & city area. Even see businesses struggling in the "cheaper" heartlands.

And Shit Times never cover this phenomena...... TOC and TR should report on this rather than sitting infront of the computer to paraphrase Shit Times reports

That's because malays buy on installments and pay only the first two installments, after that Court never saw any more of the money

By then Hari Raya is over & they don't need the furniture/appliances until next year :D

Yes POSTNEW should take photos of FOR RENT shops or stalls for all Singaporeans to see it's true.

Someone just PMed me to ask me to take a look at a hawker center in Chinatown.

Supposedly HONG LIM hawker center is closed for reno. AND this bro said that down the road at a hawker center above CK (calvin kleins?) Department store, there are many empty hawker stalls for rent as well.

WTF is happening? I thought Chinatown hawker food stalls are always very high in demend?

Retail business is very competitive, if you didn't perpetually have a HUGE DISCOUNT sign there. NO one will even walk into the store.

BESt Denki....it was part of Yahon I think.... I miss Yaohan at Plaza SINgapura...now known as PS...

You guys remember the supermarket at the basement? & Yaohan Store at Thomson Plaza??

Plaza SIN...the top floor, McLionel King eatery...:D

It was Thomson Yahoo.

It was a kind of joke. I emigrated in 1991 then two years back in 2008 I took a taxi and told the driver to drive me to "Thompson Yahoo". He immediately asked me how long I left Singapore. Before I answer him, I in turn asked him how did he knew I left Singapore?

He told me Thompson Yahoo is not more for years!

Of course.. The prices are determined by distributors.. The retailers take a small cut of the profit..

Too many middle men in the middle kills the profitability of such a line

that NTUC failure at Plaza Sing was called Liberty no ?

All shopping ctr look bland...all have the same shops...how to differentiate and hve a niche?

Its getting tougher for electrical stores liao...how many LCD tvs can you change? One per room? How many of us have more than one LCD TV? And with LCD TVs prices coming down...the margins are getting thinner.

Also, downloading movies so prevalent...no need DVD players liao...moreover, those big brands...Sony, Philips most cannot play chiong DVDs...I rather buy cheap China brand can play everything...and now, latest gadget, the media player...China brand also cheap and good....

Other electrical appliances - really cannot think of anything that these shops can depend their profits on...except maybe aircon...but how many pattern can you get from there?

the other one probably is IT gadget...but you generally don't go Best Denki to buy computers / laptops...

Courts is smart, they offer cheap installation plan...trap the Melayus...Indians have Mustapha....Chinese? Audio House? Those parallel importers who don't own outlets at shopping centres (less overheads), typically strategy is, go to Best Denki see demo set, see see look look, get the model that you want. Call the importer to buy.

few weeks ago heard carry4 going to close down bzness in asia ??? heard tesco bought over them..
singsong supermkt might rule spore soon?
got relationship with PAPies ?

We will still have NTUC and Giant Hypermart. Anyone remember Emporium, Daimaru and K-Mart.

Business is booming for those who position correctly.

Notice how Sheng Siong and Mustafa are thriving by going down market.

The PAP current policies are effectively killing off the middle/upper mildde income households. The widening income gap means that we are seeing the formation of a small number of high income households and a huge number of households in the lower middle/lower income bracket.

If current trends continue, we will likely see the retail landscape transformed into

1) A number of very high class malls catering to the small number of rich households that benefit from current PAP policies

2) Low class budget shopping chains to cater to the low cost FT and Singaporean households adversely affected by PAP policies

Not all rich people like to spend their money like no tomorrow.. You should have heard about the story about the rich going to temple for free food!

NTUC should seriously try farming and producing their own food. This is the best way to pass savings to the consumers. Buying from other producers will always subject NTUC to fluctuations in prices and eat into their profit and increase costs for consumers.

You pathetic fool! :oIo: When oil prices went up to US$150 a barrel before the Beijing Olympics, NTUC raised their prices. When oil fell back to normal levels after the Beijing Olympics, the prices that were raised were left similarly at heir raised prices.

You can count on NTUC to pass on savings as much as the PAP to pass on savings to Singaporeans.

Next time if you buy a branded DVD play just ask the salesman to unlock the player to play all regions. Manufactures know people want this multi region 'feature' so they provide the unlocking codes to their distributors :)

Never occur to you that high oil prices resulted in the raising of transport/processing cost throughout the global supply chain?

You think the world ends and begins with Singapore ar?

sorry spell wrongly Thomson Yaohan....what yahooo...you came back in 2008, that is like Rip Van Winkle who took a sip ,,, Yaohan closed down already... no wonder taxi driver ask you...

I took guitar lessons there :D

Can you play "smoke on the water"....?? I used to own a twelve string guitar after hearing America for the first time..."horse with no name"...I went out & bought myself one... never learnt guitar playing formally.. I can't read music notes still....

I doubt the PAP has a plan other than to increase rentals

If current trends continue "more" people will simply go elsewhere to shop in Malaysia, LOS,... The lower income group may not even be able to afford low budget shopping chains.

The PAP is playing a dangeous game, hungry people are angry people. Eventually they'll miscalculate & there'll be more violent outbreaks
