It's real stupidity on their part. Many middle eastern people have distinctive semitic looks and even though persians aren't semitic i believe they look kind of arab/indian too.

Some of these idiots also try to use the technicality of caucasian which spans the gamut from western europe to say western india for example but caucasian typically means a person of european descent not a turkish aka a western asian person. That is why in dating sites they put white caucasian because some ppl like non whites like try to call themselves caucasian and ppl mistake them for western european people. It's also interesting to note that turkey is called the near east and also referred to as the orient in older times.

In the same way asian is used. The fact of the matter is anyone from asia can be referred to as an asian but in the UK an asian means a shit skin and in the US asian means east asian when asia is so huge but yet only specifically refers to ppl from a certain geographic region. In the same way this applies to caucasian which means a western/northern european or maybe eastern european person excluding russians. Some ppl don't seem to be able to grasp this while they can understand the asian reference.
