STOMPer William recently went to Helipad and noticed his bill had been rounded up to the nearest 50 cents. He wonders if this method of rounding up is legal.

The STOMPer writes in his contribution (Oct 12):

"Went to Helipad recently to have a couple of drinks with my girlfriend.

"Ordered our drinks, paid. After which, we ordered a Nachos with dips.

"I paid after scanning through the invoice.

"While i was 'tidying up' my wallet after the night out, I happened to browse through the receipt again.

"Upon taking a closer look, I realised that the actual bill was supposed to be only $14.12!

"But 'clever' Helipad rounded up the bill to $14.50!!!

"What a 'smart' way to generate extra revenue for the company! I wonder if it is legal to do so?"

not the first time helipad does its tricky billing

http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/helipad/

"When the bill came, the total amount with 10% service charge and 7% GST comes up to S$70.62. However the Helipad's billing system automatically rounds up the bill to S$71.00 no matter what mode of payment you are making."

This is just plain old FRAUD. Just because the sum involved is small, they expect kum lan customers to close one eye right? :oIo:

Maybe the casher fail in Math. Should round be bill $14.10 or $14.15 neareset to 5 cents.
That the norm since Singapore mint discontinue the 1 cent coin.

thazt how rich gets richer...
and
poor get poorer.

:( :o :(

Giant supermarket would normally round down. So if it is $14.12, Giant would charge $14.10.

Perhaps they will create a new name for such amounts. A "mandatory tip"?

Maybe they should round it up to the nearest dollar and call it "keep the change." :D

Smarter ones will round up to the nearest 10 dollar. So your next bill will not be 14.50 but 20 ... :D
