Banker surfs nude pics on live TV
Channel Seven's camera catches a Macquarie Bank operative getting distracted from his work.

An unfortunate Macquarie Bank worker captured on live television ogling half-naked photographs of Australian model Miranda Kerr has made headlines around the world.

Major British and American news websites have pounced on the terrible timing of the unknown banker, who admired racy pictures of Kerr, photographed by GQ magazine, while a colleague made a live cross to the Channel Seven newsroom yesterday.

The banker's computer screen was highly visible to the television audience, who were tuning in to catch up on the latest interest rate decision by the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Martin Lakos gives his analysis while one of his colleagues collects statistical information of a different kind in the background.
The banker managed to make a good assessment of three pictures of the barely-clothed Kerr before another colleague wandered over to chat to him.

The Diary
At one point, the penny appeared to drop.

The banker glanced over his shoulder before the man doing the talking, Martin Lakos, crossed back to newsreader Chris Bath in the studio.

Both Macquarie and the Seven network issued tersely-worded statements in response.

"On behalf of our viewers, we have expressed our concern to Macquarie," a Seven spokesman said.

"They have assured us they are taking the appropriate action."

A Macquarie spokeswoman said the bank "takes matters such as the unacceptable use of technology extremely seriously" and that the matter "is being dealt with internally".

But many internet users rallied behind the banker, pointing out, that far from pornography, the photographs were published in GQ and were splashed all over the internet yesterday, including on the Daily Mail newspaper's website.

The Daily Mail itself capitalised on the controversy, today incorporating the banker's gaffe into its follow-up coverage of Kerr.

I doubt the guy behind is watching porn while at work. He is seated right in the middle of the room and in an open office too. Who would risk their job in situation like this ?

More likely he is doing an investigative seach before writing a probing report on the model. Very much unlike those so-called journalists we have in ST who merely report without any analysis or investigation into the picture, unless the subject is 'Opposition Parties'.

Yah he is doing some research on Amanda Kerr if you have read the article.

Saucy shots : Banker probed

<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> SYDNEY - AN AUSTRALIAN bank is investigating an employee caught red-handed viewing pictures of a near-naked model on his computer during a live TV broadcast. Footage of the incident, which has generated 200,000 hits on YouTube, shows the banker turning around in surprise when he realises a colleague behind him is being interviewed about interest rates. The Seven Network TV station said it had received complaints, while Macquarie Bank issued a statement stressing that it took 'unacceptable use of technology' extremely seriously. 'Macquarie has strict policies in place surrounding the use of technology and the issue arising from today's live cross on 7 News is being dealt with internally,' it said. The incident follows another public gaffe in October, when ABC TV presenter Virginia Trioli apologised after being caught on-air making the 'loopy' gesture to suggest Nationals senator Barnaby Joyce was crazy. -- AFP

Save busted banker plea

<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> SYDNEY (Australia) - AN AUSTRALIAN website has begun a campaign to save the bank staffer who was busted with pictures of a scantily dressed model on his computer screen on live television. According to a report on news.com.au, Here is the City, a financial website, has established a webpage called 'Help Save Macquarie Banker's Job - Join Our Campaign', encouraging readers to e-mail the Public Relations department of Macquarie Bank and save the job of the hapless David Kiely.

Mr Kiely works at Macquarie Private Wealth and became an unwitting internet sensation when he was caught looking at photos of semi-naked supermodel Miranda Kerr while his colleague, Martin Lakos, did a live television cross to Channel 7 news right behind him on Tuesday. Australian media has since reported that Mr Kiely was set up. Channel 10 news said that one of the e-mails contained the words 'turn around now', which he did and found himself on camera. Macquarie Bank says it is investigating the incident.

The website says in its e-mail petition: 'Whether set up or not, Kiely was really only guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There but for the Grace of God.' Here in the City also says that Mr Kiely seems like a nice person and the pictures were no 'hard-core'. It states that he has suffered enough. Mr Keily's faux pas has become an internet sensation with a posting of the clip on YouTube getting over 1,024,848 hits. According to news.com.au, Mr Keily's colleagues are generally not talking about the incident, although one did say: 'I don't want to say anything - the photos aren't bad, he was just unlucky with his timing.'

SYDNEY - MIRANDA Kerr says an Australian banker left red-faced when a live TV broadcast showed him looking at her scantily clad photos at work shouldn't be fired. Macquarie Bank worker Dave Kiely was at his desk as a colleague was being interviewed about interest rates when the camera showed him apparently opening e-mail attachments of nearly nude photos of the model. The clip became a YouTube hit and other media broadcast it during prime-time Tuesday.

Macquarie Bank said it was investigating, and Kiely is expected to meet with his bosses soon to learn his fate.
Kerr, a 26-year-old Australian-born model engaged to 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star Orlando Bloom, said she hoped the banker would not lose his job. 'I am told there is a petition to save his job, and of course I would sign it,' news.com.au quoted her as saying. London-based financial news-based Web site Here is the City set up an e-mail campaign to help Kiely, saying he should not get fired because he has suffered enough and the pictures weren't hardcore porn. -- AP

That is why he has to appear before a panel to explain...fired or not is up to his bosses.
