The only chef here to have won the prized Golden Tripod Gold Award for culinary skill on three occasions was convicted on Wednesday for accepting bribes amounting to $177,704 from a seafood supplier.
Chik Ka Chung, 48, the former executive Chinese chef of Singapore Marriott Hotel, will be sentenced on Oct 30.
He was among four chefs from well-known hotels charged in June for accepting bribes from Tay Ee Tiong, the sole proprietor of Weathy Seafood Product And Enterprise.
Court papers indicate that in July 2008, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau was tipped off that Tay was bribing chefs of several hotels and restaurants.
