Just visited Melaka
on youtube
lol
Dont waste your time.
The place is now Islamized, most of the Peranakan/Chinese/Indians have left, less than 10% based on my observation of local street people.
Majority of the restaurants at Halal especially the Jonker Street shops. I walked in this restaurant "Atlantic Nonya" and left after reading the menu, which is really selling non-pork Malay food than real Nonya cuisine. You will not find "traditional" dishes like Ngo Hiang or Buah Keluak chicken in many of these restaurants.
The food is rubbish, tourist traps. There might be some good non Halal on fringes of the city, but nothing mind blowing.
You better off eating Peranakan cuisine at the modern cafes in KL.
The old Peranakan houses in Jonker area are not well maintained, many are abandoned, some are on verge of collapse from decay.
The trishaw drivers blast their irritating music (including Islamic Prayers), zooming fast and dangerously. There is this Islamic lodge right infront of the crossing to Jonker, also blasting weird prayer like songs (?) disturbing the peace of the already crowded place.
The "Historical" sites are not impressive, that Portuguese fort is so tiny (versus old fort like buildings you see in China and Europe), makes you wonder the Melakans (Bumi) must be CMI. No wonder their descendants can easily sign over Singapore to the Raffles through an exchange of opium, and the whole Malayia sign off to the British for pennies LOL.
Finally, the city is really hot and humid with bad air because of overcongested roads.
Melaka is fucking ugly looking, no culture decaying city. No wonder these Mats are not so desperate as they opening doors wide open for Tiongs.
