No more room to grow. S'pore has reached its limit.

As one of the densest population centres in the world, Singapore can now only grow by more value added. yet the only gains are liquidity driven bubble gains

In real terms the average Singaporean is far worse off. When it took about 7 years to pay off a housing loan 25 years ago, now it takes 30 years

And the quality of life is much worse. Average Singaporean is putting in OT, double shift to pay for over the top housing costs, rents, and other ever-increasing costs of everything

Even a downgrader like me who has simplified my life so much is feeling the strain

Even the sick are not spared - they have to sleep on the corridor in public hospitals because there is no space in the wards

What kind of country is this? Somewhere in the last 25 years we lost our way, thereis no more brotherly spirit. It is every man for himself

THIS COUNTRY IS SO FUCKED

Bed crunch at hospices

Terminally ill patients put on waiting list as demand grows

By Joan Chew

HOSPICES are so short of beds that terminally ill patients sometimes have to be put on a waiting list for a place, with some dying before they can be admitted.

On some days, two of the four hospices here, Dover Park and Assisi, have 10 to 20 patients waiting to get in, they said. The waiting time at Assisi can be up to two weeks.

Together with Bright Vision Hospital and St Joseph's Home and Hospice, which were not able to give figures, they provide some 130 beds for a population whose demand for such care is growing as it ages.

In 2008, 1,188 patients needed hospice beds and another 3,913 sought palliative care at home. The figures for last year are not yet available.

The Health Ministry said it was aware of the growing demand and was 'gearing up' to expand bed capacity, as well as to recruit and train more palliative specialists such as doctors and nurses.

Hospices admit terminally ill patients who cannot be cared for at home, or who need temporary alleviation of distressing symptoms. They offer special care for the dying that cannot be provided by hospitals or nursing homes.

Dying also have to take a queue number, unlike the elite can have a 24hr/365 medical care at HOME...you a member?

I can vouch for that. When I was ambulanced to A&E (obvious case of must be warded) there's a huge waiting depot of stretcher-beds waiting and I lie in wait. Arm plugged to drip and life hanging on tip. Waited boring and half dead for about an hour, a nurse came and ask me, would I like to take a corridor space since the queue was still quite long.

Somemore, showing me a laminated photo of the corridor trying to assure me that it's as fine as can be, and I'd get into proper ward as soon as available. I almost became Eric Clapton Unplugged feel like singing Tears In Heaven.

Anyway, I was too weak to argue or accuse. I just said, no thanks, I'd wait. Even if I was going to drop dead, the waiting depot looked a more dignified place than the corridor.

Singapore's World Records
On this small island lives the 30 best-paid politicians in the world, comments a blogger. MySingaporeNews.
Apr 3, 2009
As the economic crisis worsens and thousands are being retrenched, the huge salaries of Singapore's political leaders have come under the spotlight not only here - but overseas.
With G20 leaders gathering in London to work out solutions to the global crisis, the Times compiled a list of "the 10 best-paid politicians in the world" - naturally with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong taking the top spot.
The story was picked up by The Australia, which also works out their salaries when ranked against population.
Mr Lee earns S$3.76 million (US$2.47 million) a year, excluding bonuses, allowances, pensions, etc which add on a significant bit.
This is about 54 cents per head of population. In second position was his counterpart from New Zealand at 9 cents. The rest of the world are all down there, below even the lowest-ranking minister in Singapore.
But Singaporean blogger redbean's "My Singapore News" carries a calculation from its reader, Green Peas, expanding on the UK and Australian reports.
It pointed out that the world's 30 best-paid politicians (a definition that will include ministers, elected president, etc) are all from Singapore.
Here's what the blogger says:
The TOP 30 highest paid politicians in the world are all from Singapore:
1. Elected President SR Nathan - S$3.9 million.
2. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong - S$3.8 million.
3. Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew - S$3.5 million.
4. Senior Minister Goh Chok Thong - S$3.5 million.
5. Senior Minister Prof Jayakumar - S$3.2 million.
6. DPM & Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng - S$2.9 million.
7. DPM & Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean - $2.9 million
8. Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo - S$2.8 million.
9. National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan - S$2.7 million.
10. PMO Miniser Lim Boon Heng - S$2.7 million.
11. Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang - S$2.7 million.
12. PMO Minister Lim Swee Say - S$2.6 million.
13. Environment Minister & Muslim Affairs Minister Dr Yaccob Ibrahim - S$2.6 million.
14. Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan - S$2.6 million.

15. Finance Minister S Tharman - S$2.6 million.
16. Education Minister & 2nd Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen - S$2.6 million.
17. Community Development Youth and Sports Minister - Dr Vivian Balakrishnan - S$2.5 million.
18. Transport Minister & 2nd Minister for Foreign Affairs Raymond Lim Siang Kiat - S$2.5 million.
19. Law Minister & 2nd Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam - S$2.4 million.
20. Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong - S$2.2 million.
21. PMO Minister Lim Hwee Hwa - S$2.2 million.
22. Acting ICA Minister - Lui Tuck Yew - S$2.0 million.
23 to 30 = Senior Ministers of State and Ministers of State - each getting between S$1.8 million to S$1.5 million.
Note: 1. The above pay does not include MP allowances, pensions and other sources of income such as Directorship, Chairmnship, Advisory, Consultancy, etc to Gov-linked and gov-related organisations or foreign MNCs such as Citigroup, etc.
2. Though it is based on an estimate, the data cannot be far off the official salary scales.
The above was posted in redbeanforum by Green Peas.

I know how that feels. I was admitted last july and the waiting for a bed was......miserable.

But i guess i was luckier. I did get a good bed after 6 hours of wait and the rest was ....a miserable recovery.....

BTW, my company paid for my medical and hospital bills. :)

How can 6 hours of wait for a 1st world standard country make you sound like "Wow it could have been worse"?
Now which minister said that? :D

complain right? medical fees will rise soon to cater to your needs...just like how you all complained about taxis...

u forgot to mention the world's highest paid politicians ...
