<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->ON DEC 16, my mother had her health screening done at the Singapore General Hospital. But she did not get to see her report until Feb 23.
As for the reason for taking such a long time to churn out the report, we do not know. In fact, it was only when my sister called up the hospital that we got an appointment for the review. Over the phone, we were told the results were good and my mother did not even need to come down personally.
However, on Feb 23, when my mother went down for the medical review, she was told that she needed to redo the urine test due to the presence of blood in the urine. Some test results had indicated less than a satisfactory state of health, including signs of an enlarged heart, high cholesterol, osteopenia, microcalcifications and axillary lymph nodes in the breast.
The doctor who examined her was not the one who reviewed the results as she was on medical leave.
The covering doctor noted the less than desirable mammogram results but was not able to advise if further investigation was needed.
My mother left with her report, but she did not get back her chest and mammogram X-ray films.
I am disappointed with the level of care exhibited by the hospital and the apparent nonchalant attitude adopted by the hospital staff. I hope the hospital can take greater care in its service and have a tighter audit to ensure that proper follow-up is offered to its patients. Lai Wai Mun (Ms)
