The Iranian men’s team followed in the footsteps of its women’s counterparts by winning a gold medal in kabaddi after defeating Korea 26-16 at the Garuda Theater, TMII Jakarta, on Friday.
Playing with high zeal, both teams were very cautious in the beginning until the first point was scored by Korea. Iran retaliated to equalize, followed by a tight struggle that led to an 8-8 scoreline.
Iran scored another point when Korea’s Lee Donggeon was thwarted, making it 9-8. Ko Youngchang also failed to hit when he got caught, making the score 10-8 in the first half.
In the second half, Iran’s Maghsoudloujafari was given a yellow card for his attitude and moved to the seat beside the referee for 3 minutes.
Still, Iran added a bonus point after Esmaeli made a fast move and his hand touched the red line in the middle of the field. By the end of the second half, Iran secured a 3 point bonus that changed the score to 25-14. The match finished 26-16 for Iran.
The Iranian athletes celebrated the victory by running around the field while waving their national flag. The bronze medals in men’s kabaddi were received by India and Pakistan.
The Iranian team comprised Atrachali Fazel, Nabibakhsh Mohammadesmaeli, Oshtorak Hadi, Maghsoudloumahalli, Abbasi Meisam, Maghsoudluojafari Mohsen, Mohamjermighani Abozar, Nosrati Mohammadamin, Malak Mohammad, Ghorbani Mohammad, Abolfazi and Mirzaeinader Hamid.
The Korean team comprised Lee Donggeon, Lee Jangkun, Eom Taedeok, Hong Dongju, Kim Seongyeol, Park Hyunil, Ko Younghcan, Ok Yongjo, Kim Donggyu, Park Chansik, Jo Jaepil and Kim Gyung Tae.
