Success due to capable leaders, strong armed forces, vibrant economy By Li Xueying & Teo Wan Gek

MINISTER Mentor Lee Kuan Yew last night distilled the key ingredients that made Singapore's survival and progress possible over the last 45 years: a vibrant economy and a strong armed forces.

And the linchpin to both: a strong Government. Moving forward, these same attributes remain crucial to the country's continued success, he said.

'To build such a Singapore, we need an exceptionally strong Government, with the ablest, the toughest and most dedicated of leaders. We head-hunt for them, test them out in heavy responsibilities,' he said at the National Day dinner in his Tanjong Pagar constituency.

'Only such leaders can keep the economy growing and create good jobs and generate the revenue to pay for the equipment and training of our 3G SAF,' he added, referring to the Third Generation Singapore Armed Forces.

In turn, the 3G SAF 'provides the security and confidence of our people and of foreign investors, assured that we can more than defend ourselves'.

'If there is insecurity, there will be fewer investments. That means a poorer people and instability.'

Singapore wasn't build from the last 5 or 10 years ago with the current 'leeders'. Most, if not all, the leaders who built Singapore are either retired, or passed on. These leaders compensation was not even a fraction of what the current lot, who cannot even prevent floods and only knows how to increase cost to solve problems, is getting to do absolutely nothing. the old man, in his own words, is not doing much these days either but getting millions in salary.

The late Mr. Goh Keng Swee's version of how singapore was out of Malaysia and how he personally set up almost every pillars of the country including but limited to Public housing and the Army, actually showed that the old man's version is very biased to the benefit for the old man himself.

LKY claims incentives, bonuses, etc failed to encourage Sporeans to make enough babies. He's convenientlly forgotten that it was his "stop at two" policy which was responsible for the current dilemma

the easiest way to test the character & dedication of the ministars... give them a monthly wage of $800 nett

He got the ingredients right, but his MIW are not the ablest, toughest and most dedicated.

It's one thing getting the philosophy right, but as always, another thing to get the deployment right and so far it has faltered miserably and come out short.
