SINGAPORE: The Internal Security Department (ISD) Heritage Centre celebrated its 10th anniversary on Tuesday with the launch of a new Counter-Terrorism Gallery.
The new gallery houses a wide array of case studies and exhibits arising from ISD's counter-terrorism investigations over the past 10 years since the disruption of the Jemaah Islamiyah network in Singapore.
One of the rooms showed a typical office of a Singapore Special Branch officer back in 1965.
Some interesting things found in the room included a reel tape recorder, which the officer used for interrogation purposes, and a safe where investigation documents were kept.
At the Heritage Centre, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean toured the gallery after launching it at the ISD's Whitley Road premises.
In his speech, Mr Teo, who is also the Coordinating Minister for National Security, highlighted internal security threats such as cyber espionage and foreign subversion.
He also touched on the continuing threat of Jemaah Islamiyah, as well as racial and religious extremism.
Over the next two years, the ISD Heritage Centre will be working with the Education Ministry to reach out to all schools through mobile exhibitions.
