and whats done with the money
if genuinely erp is meant to have better traffic flow than just making money, then the collection should be given to charities or better still help to provide bigger subsidies in healthcare for the poor and aged

ERP collected to pay the high salary to MIW and the top civil servants.

Why bother about ERP. If cannot afford to drive dont drive. Parking or petrol are more expensive than ERP.
I hoping ERP rate will be double so do the parking charge.

what kind of moronic argument is that
its like saying why bother about high food prices - if cannot afford to eat then dont eat
why bother about high transport charges - if cannot afford to take mrt dont take

so stupid !

Car is optional(consider luxury item) without car cannot die. Foods/housing/public transport is a basic need so cost effect on most people so even 10 cent make a big differrent.
Cannot afford car can choose not to buy unlike food still need to eat to survive.
To maintain a car will cost about $1.5k on average can feed on family.
I hate those KPKB about car cost/ERP/parking/fuel price. Because I hate daily traffic jam.

There is a way to go about without paying ERP and yet driving thru the gantries

I read somewhere it's about $1.5 million collected per day on ERP. Expecting them to subsidize on healthcare or helping the poor is just like having a fat hope. They would rather squander it away on things like budget overrun on silly YOG or buying prc ping pong girls.

Singapore is the best place in the world to live in if you're a rich expat businessman. All your foreign income not taxed at all. It's like living in Monaco but with more shopping malls. But if you're poor, the regressive, stealth taxes in Singapore would kill you even if your tax bill every year is $0.

when people buy cars, they say:
COE - to regulate/ limit the number of cars on the roads to prevent congestion
road tax - a levy imposed as form of amenity/maintenance for roads

when ERP was initially introduced, it was to replace the CBD zone fee collection. later, the ERP gantries spread outside the zones, reason cited to limit traffic flowing into CBD. later, ERP gantries introduced on major roads leading towards CBD, reason cited to limit traffic. later ERP gantries planted along highways, reason cited to limit rush hour traffic.

its a bloody pile of bull crap. slightly less than half of the dwellers on this island work in the city, and some r condensed in the CBD. they can put 100 ERP gantries on the same stretch of roads, the people die die have to crawl thru the gantries to get to work.

been nearly 12yrs since ERP was implemented, we don't see any improvement on the congestion issues.

clearly, the scholars have shit for brains. if they truly had brains, they would diversify & spread the economic network across the island, so to facilitate & minimize traffic.

when people live within 5-20km proximity to their work place, there'd be significant reduction of cars on the roads. the prefered mode of transport automatically shifts towards public transports. there wont be need to constantly widen roads, more land spaces to grow trees that wont fall when the storms come. create a greener environment, bringing the avg temperature down a notch or 2.

You can request erp to be removed but every car's road tax will be increased by at least twice.

They have to find ways to source this lack of income. :o

They surely do not have shit for their brains, the people who continually kept them going are they ones, who have shits in their brains.

The system was designed to 'milk' money from the people

The problem is number of cars are increasing. They need to stop the growth of the number of cars on the road. The flip side will be that COE will be higher.

In which case SG compared to most other major cities in the world is still not really congested so the situation isn't half bad at the moment

Population increased, cars will increase. One way to stem this problem is 1 name 1 car. Not 1 name, multiple cars.

To reduce cars on roads,
1) Scrap the red car plates
2) Levy on 2nd car and onwards
3) Easiest and most popular method by govt - price of COE increase. If one day COE hits $50k same price as car, maybe cars will be reduced.

But its like smoking. Cigarettes is expensive but people still smoke.

One thing why people like to own cars in Singapore is public transport is really packed.
