As I said those are not the issue. After 1995, the wages of cleaners from 1,100, has dropped to $660. Our Ah Sohs and Ah Ters can no longer survive. Our Ah Lians manning cashier points at supermakets, retail stores can longer get a job because pinoys have taken over.

The reason why this govt can take Singaporeans for a wide is because you guys have no clue about what to attack and where the problem.

An ITE grad with printing qualifications cannot get a job because Ah Tiong got "cert" and he is a lot cheaper. The tool and die chaps are now from India. Go to an SIA Hangar and you think you are in Manila. The technicians are put in Bayhore apts 6 to an apt.

Employers have gone mad with the cheap foreign labour that they cutting corners on standards.

Also alot of the time these FTrash 'qualifications' & "referees" are so fake, they make LVs from China look real. Still, employers decide to close a blind eye to the glaring obvious until shit happens. There's a growing body of research on this 'phenomenon' of rampant fake qualifications from 3rd world immigration. I think our angmo neighbour, arsetralia, is now learning this lesson the hard way & their research came too late. Now not only're their dumbass IT projects in Gov & private sectors consistently failing b/c of the useless onshore bodyshops of 'qualified' keling programmers, their education standards're now even lower b/c they accepted FTrash cockroaches who can't cope. They'd to really dumbdown the curriculum to let them pass, even though these FTrash supposedly have Masters, PhDs, honours bachelor degrees from their home countries.

IMO, you get rid of or greatly reduce FTrash, you remove their bloody slanted spending habits & also the economic bleed out called remittance . Then consumption patterns'll be more closely reflected to the average Sporn.

The Sporn Gov's well aware of the vast 'undertable' remittance but it's a political issue that MIW dare not thread for fear of offending the various keling & ah tiong govs b/c those cuntries' coffers directly benefited from that.

In a first world country, one man drives a truck with bricks for delivery. At the back of the truck is a forklift. He reaches the destination and he himself will operate the foreklift to unload. In Singapore, there will be 3 to 4 jokers and there will be 2 forklifts, one at loading and one at delivery site. No incentive to do anything. GDP still grows, space becomes a constraint.

This was sometime in the mid 90s. An Ang Mo kid whose father runs a company in singapore got a job in singapore for which he was not qualified. His work visa was rejected on the basis that he did not have special qualifications and the job can be filled by any local. They appealed and they won.

I then found that all MNCs know that they will succeed if they appeal so to save time, they do not waste time writing long story the first time. Since 2000, no need to bother it will be approved. The qualification requirement is up to the employer.

NUH recruited couple of Kiwi girls for their labs. One day a local staff noticed that these girls came early to work and left at 3pm twice a week. On asking she found that they played hockey with a local club on those days. Shortly after, some of the staff wanted to take advantage of a long weekend and applied for leave. All were rejected. The Kiwi girls had booked advance leave for the whole year for all the long weekends so they could not allow other staff as they will be shorthanded. The supervisor was from Scotland. He too had got his long weekends.

Only one country that I know that can allow these kinds of things to happen. These are not low income foreigners.

Why would someone would lug a forklift on a lorry if a hiab crane can do the job.

My feeling is rather mixed about Foreign Talent policy. How could we ensure there is no job displacement of local workers?

In other countries, their trade union would have played an important role on such labor policy. But this is Singapore. The logic could be so twisted here but they are accepted without any questions.

Way back in 1999, I was questioning the wisdom of the merits of having more Foreign investment while all these employ more than half of their workers from overseas. How do they benefit us Singaporeans as a whole except putting up a good look on our GDP figures?

Anyone who have learned Econs 101 about National Income Accounting would know that increasing GDP could be done by injecting capital and labor artificially. This is exactly what is happening right now and GDP increase has no impact at all at our quality of life, least salary/income. This is basically because such increase is basically due to increase in foreign labor input, or just fluctuation in pharmaceutical output.

But such indicators are capitalized by PAP as their "track records" (sic).

We were born as entrepot and foreigners have been part and parcel of Singapore life. So we were never parochial or xenophobic.

The issue hits hard when singaporeans can't get a job while there are hordes of foreigners. There is no control. Most countries seeking migrants will state the vocations and jobs where visas will be given but not singapore.

I know of an MNC where a particular dept started with one Aussie and within a year and half ended with nearly all Aussies. Its was friends and acquaintences including girlfriends and boyfriends of colleagues.

Again, rental costs is growing very fast and the cost has to be displaced by lower wage costs. The property sector is a protected sector.
