Have to disagree with such logic. We don't see any building collapsing despite the ever increasing construction rate. We also don't see more power outage because of ever increasing power lines.

To layman, they may think that elect supply is low tech compared to mrt. No, maintenance work requires discipline and knowledge. Preventive maintenance involves replacing things that appears to be good for those with no experience It also involved disciplined inspection of critical parts that are so numerous on a daily basis. It requires skilful eyes and ears to identify tell tale sign of impending fault / failure.

MRT co. has lost that maintenance discipline and knowledge. It takes a great maintenance guy to rebuild the maintenance team.

SMRT under one management. They will cut cost by sharing manpower. Meaning less man hour/km of track and MRT car.
Most technician are FT with limited knowledge and mostly will return to mother country after 6 to 15 year.
