SINGAPORE – A motorcyclist and his pillion rider were killed in an accident on the BKE that also involved two lorries on the morning of Jan 21.

When contacted, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted to the accident, which occurred along the BKE towards the PIE before the KJE exit, at about 5.40am.

The 52-year-old motorcyclist and the 41-year-old female pillion rider were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations are ongoing, added the police.

In a video uploaded on Facebook of the aftermath of the accident, a stationary white lorry is seen on the first lane of an expressway. A motorcycle lies on its side near the rear wheels of the lorry.

The crash resulted in congestion on the road up to Woodlands Checkpoint during the morning peak hour, with bus operators warning of delays to some services plying the BKE.

The Land Transport Authority said on social media platform X at about 7am that motorists should avoid the first two lanes of the expressway.

Bus operator Tower Transit said in a Facebook post at 8.29am that delays of approximately 40 to 45 minutes are expected for services 171, 963 and 966 due to traffic congestion on the BKE.

RIP n condolences to their family

Ride carefully n drive safely, we have our love ones waiting at home. Dun rush

Those are probably Malaysian bikes who love lane splitting, speeding, and being a menace to everybody.
Traffic Police and LTA are complicit because they are quietly not enforcing bad behaviour. And because of that, they are now upgrading their bikes to bigger capacity, some up to 900cc.
Authorities, what are you going to do about it?

Lane splitting is the problem. I see it every day on the BKE and SLE - almost always M'sian bikers riding at hight speed in between vehicles. Changing lanes becomes a hazard for car drivers because you don't know when a bike would suddenly appear out of nowhere and collide with your car.

In many First World nations, lane-splitting is illegal. Our Traffic Police just refuses to ban it, despite mounting calls.

These bikes usually travel at 100-120km/h, and they shadow at bigger vehicle blind spots. They will suddenly accelerate and Cheong if u pak signal to turn….this is when most accidents occur
