WHEN his girlfriend said she wanted to end their relationship, he not only hit her but also bashed her dog.
Two months later, Chia Chiew Boon punched a driver whose car had hit him while crossing the road and he also assaulted two cops who intervened.
On Monday, the unemployed Singaporean, 37, was jailed for a year for the offences he committed in April and June last year.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Jeh Yaw told the court that on the evening of April 19 last year, Chia and his girlfriend Wee Siew Lian, 33, got into a dispute at her Seletar home because she wanted to break up with him.
Chia slapped Ms Wee and also grabbed her shoulder. When she struggled to break free, he slapped her again, causing her to fall. But he continued to hit his girlfriend, kicking her left thigh twice.
Chia then turned on Ms Wee's pet dog, using a picture frame to hit the dog's body. Chia continued to hit the dog until Ms Wee pleaded with him to stop.
He didn't listen to her and resumed whacking the dog - this time with a mop and stick. He also grabbed the dog and hurled it onto the ground.
Ms Wee suffered bruises to her face and body and her dog sustained a broken tooth and bleeding in the left eye and body.
Chia also got into a separate altercation in the early hours of June 7 last year when he was hit by a car while trying to cross the road along Sims Avenue.
The driver Wee Kim Koon, 33, got out of his vehicle to help him, but Chia punched the driver in his face and body. Two police officers tried to stop the fight, however Chia turned on them, punching one in the stomach and another in the chest and head.
