I was looking around Toa Payoh & came across the famed Angmo Kio curry puff. :)
The curry puffs are now selling for $1.30 each

It is located at the coffee shop that is near to the KFC;

discounted? last time sell for SGD 1.50 already right? Daylight robbery... it used to sell for only 40 cents... fuck that was 20 years ago!!! I'm fucking OLD!

I notice that even Polar is offering special prices if you buy 2 or more pcs of they're puffs. Usually 2 for $3.
Chang Kee is also around the same price

There's only so much that you can charge for the humble curry puff before people decide to eat something healthier.
As it's deep fried curry puff is not the healthiest food, so eat it sparingly :)

I know of one good curry puff stall at East Coast Park hawker center. The curry puffs are fresh and fillings very juicy.

Famous Tip Top Curry Puff owner jailed for tax evasion

SINGAPORE: The owner of a famous curry puff stall in Ang Mo Kio Central has been sentenced to two weeks' jail for under declaring his profits so as to evade taxes.

Looi Saan Cheng, the boss of Tip Top Curry Puff, pleaded guilty in the Subordinate Courts on Friday.

Besides a jail term, he also has to pay a penalty three times the amount of tax undercharged.

The 63-year-old runs a successful curry puff business, and was even mentioned during a National Day Rally.

IRAS said this is the first case where a hawker in a coffee shop has been prosecuted for tax evasion.

IRAS prosecutor Sinnadurai Maniam proceeded with two of the six original charges.

The court heard that Looi had on 2 April 2005 made a false entry when he filed his income tax returns. He stated that he had earned a net profit of S$6,080, when the actual amount was S$199,960.

Looi under-declared again in 2006. This time, he stated that net profit earned was S$18,204, when the amount was in fact S$236,140.

As a result, the amount of tax evaded in both instances came up to S$65,396.

The judge sentenced Looi to two weeks' jail on each of the two charges. However, the sentences will run concurrently, so Looi will only serve a two-week jail term.

He will also have to pay a penalty of S$196,195.

In arguing for a deterrent sentence, the prosecutor stressed that under-declarations or other instances of evasion operate as fraud to the authorities. This constitutes a serious offence which should be punished appropriately. - CNA/ir

lianbeng suggests changed name to Toa Payoh Curry Puff.:D

Anyone know if this angmo kio curry puff place, now shifted to Toa Payoh, owned by THE same person who got jailed for tax evasion:confused:

At the Toa Payoh stall he's got old pictures posted of his old place & him making curry puffs. The stall holder is an older uncle, probably in his 60's.

He's got a brand name lah. It's common for owners of old stalls proudly advertising they are formerly from XYZ food centre or coffee shop.

If he changed the name, his old time customers wouldn't be able to track him.

then lianbeng got another suggestion, "AMK Curry Puff -Toa Payoh Branch- 老字号!":D

For a healthier alternative can try the more expensive baked Chicken Cornish from Secret Recipe. They have the original & spicier version.

It's only RM$8.50 in JB, SIN$5.20 in the Spore branches. It's much bigger than a curry puff. It's also meatier than most curry puffs.

Malay or Chinese style curry puff is not my favourite. My top favourite Indian food is Indian triangle curry puff. Last time I go Bedok Interchange sure buy at least one from the Indian kawan boy if he's there selling, usually snack time between lunch time and dinner time. Now sold at some mama coffeeshops but franchised already. Not so nice but still better than Malay/Chinese style. I still buy sometimes but won't sure buy if I pass by.

I don't think the biz is good too. Less and less mama coffeeshops selling. Quite noticeable. Price keep upping and quality keep downing. Those were good old days with good food. Sighz. Or maybe KNNBCC shot them liao

There is one in old airport road hawker center, forgot name but their black pepper puffs are very good.

Tried his cuff puff the other day...it is good lah. The skin is thin and got chicken in every bite. More importantly, all the staff are local not like the one in located in Ang Mo Kio.
