ang mo expats and bargaining

he actually offered $1800 and said he would walk around to give me time to think about it.....

wahhh such arrogance coming from that cheapskate angmo. I would have told him, "I will not think about it. $2.3k is final and the door is always open for u to leave." :oIo:

Would rather not do business with such cheapskate and arrogant prick.

yes...
unfortunately not my shop....

Haggling is all part of the nature of doing business. No one buys a car for the list price displayed on the windscreen, right?

If he had been a serious customer, he would have done some research on the items in question to determine its current market worth. By offering a price way below the seller's estimation just shows his ignorance somewhat. Clearly a time waster but of course you don't them them that!

Unfortunately some ppl see ang moh very up.

If it was say a chinaman that did the same exact thing as the ang moh to wendy somehow you wouldn't be writing in this manner but probably condemning the buyer as a cheapskate.

You've missed the point of my comment. This Ang Moh fellow has either

1) not researched what is considered the fair market value of the items he wishes to buy and is suggesting a price he can afford.
2) trying to pull a fast one on the TS.

At the end of the day, the seller has a reserve price below which he is not prepared to deal i.e where profit turns to loss. A deal is only struck when both parties can agree on the price. This is more likely to happen if both parties do their research and are prepared to be flexible.

For example, if I want to buy a high end watch from Sincere or Cortina, I, as a customer will do my due diligence and realize that I can probably knock off at least 30% off the list price shown in the window. How much further discount I can get will depend on my haggling skills, the cost price of the watch and probably the sales assistant's commission. I fully expect to be told to f**k off if I suggest a price which is below cost.

Btw, whether the customer is Chinese, Ang Moh, Indian or whatever is irrelevant.

many ang mohs have this 'superior ' attitude towards Asians.....but the sad story is that many Asians give them reasons to by behaving in a subservient manner towards the

bloody ang mohs.

The worst thing is that somehow they think they are higher classed than other races and others think ang mohs are generous.

Yes, it's the unfortunate Pinkerton syndrome.

based on what i saw in the last week, a chinaman may have tried the $1800 line, but after i said, no, would probably NOT have said, i will walk around and let you think about it....
