Some how this seems like a Deja Vu, someone from the Christian community has also mentioned this to me before. The only difference at that time was the name which known as "Shang Chang".
While ShangDi is used in both Chinese and Christian's context, one would eaedc easily realize that they are referring to different entity. The "ShangDi" from Ancient China did refer to the god governing the Heaven. Its origin and developmental process is however very different from the Genesis of Christianity.
Shang Di in China can be equate to Yu Huang Da Di, which is the emperor in Heaven. He governs gods and Deities just like the Chinese Emperor governing the officials.
The major difference between the Shang Di in Chinese context is the lack of original Sin. While the working of Christianity is based upon man sinned against God and have ever since trying to obtain redemption. The Chinese have mentioned of no such event. At the same time, the workings of both Shang Di's are different. The Shang Di (base on Wikipedia.org) from Chinese culture rewards the good doers and punishs bad. Shang Di from Christianity punishes anyone who do not believe Him, regardless good or bad doers.
Are the Shang Di from Chinese culture the same as Shang Di from Christianity? Absolutely not. Neither can it be a coincidence that both having the same name. Christianity entered China only in recent history, it is most likely that they adopted "Shang Di" as the name of their God to create leverage over the position of Christianity.
It is therefore an error to assume that Ancient Chinese worship the same Shang Di as the one in Christianity.

Precisely! The Xtians at that time want to make a grand entrance to the Chinese community, Shang Di makes it look much bigger than life.
the christian shang di is an asshole.. cannot even differentiate between good and bad.
Many of the gods are really images of various generals (关公)officials(陶朱公），citizens are encouraged to worship the various virtues(loyalty , generousity,filial piety) . if you notice the 玉皇大帝， the dressing is very much like the chinese emperors. The emperors wants the peasants to believe that they were ordained by the heavens, and there are the 天子（sons of heaven)
I am always very happy when some people believe in GOD or Jesus. Normally i will recommend them to watch a movie. Just about 2hrs plus of your time.
For those who doesnt believe also must watch cos its a very detailed movie. Which in Singapore you can hardly find any. Only in the internet can you get it.
