Dr Chee: Amazing how much they can eat! They're young, they need strength... strong arms to give the world a good shake.
Minister: I didn't realise it needed shaking.
Dr Chee: Ask them in a few years' time when they're adults, they'll tell us what we got wrong. Two old fogies like you and me, we can't see it.
if society is to evolve and progress, we need young people to contradict us, think beyond us, and ultimately, make us, the older generation irrelevant. These 13 and 14 year olds came yesterday to Public Enemy, and they totally got into the play, and understood its message. I thank their parents for bringing them to the play - to be inspired and to expand their minds, even as they were entertained. I feel happy in my heart that they got to spend quality time together as a family.
In recent days, I have been thinking a lot about 16 year-old Amos Yee, our latest public enemy, who is spending this weekend in prison. However offensive or disrespectful his views are, I can't help thinking that as a society, we can do better. And that we have failed him.
