STOMPer Ricardo was concerned that bouncers might be too trigger happy, as a recent incident at St James Power Station left tourists bloodied after a scuffle with club security.

Jake and Shania (not their real names) are both 22-year-old university students from America. They had arrived in Singapore on Friday (April 27).

Three hours after their arrival, they had followed their Singaporean host and three other Americans to St James Power Station.

The group alleged that they were attacked by bouncers from the club following two incidents where at least one of them got onto the stage in The Boiler Room to dance.

But a spokesman for St James Power Station told The New Paper yesterday that a scuffle started after the group became "aggressive" towards one of its security staff members.

Three of the six friends later received treatment at Singapore General Hospital for multiple injuries, including bleeding from the eyes, fractures and lacerations which required stitches.

The police said they responded to a call at 2.30am informing them of the fight.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that two men suffering facial injuries were taken by ambulance to Singapore General Hospital that morning between 2am and 3am.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Said STOMPer Ricardo:

"Are bouncers getting too trigger happy?

"I mean, they are supposed to protect the crowd, not harm them.

"They do have to deal with unruly party-goers, but that does not mean they should just beat them up."

The way I see it, the Americans cannot get use to restrictions. They were in shock when told not to dance on the stage and became 'aggressive' towards the bouncer probably a NSMan who were brought up to observe rules and orders whole of his life. To me there is no right or wrong in this incident, just a clash of civilisation.

My experience from friends who run clubs and nightspots is that those bouncers will always ask u nicely first. If you still refuse to come down from say the pole stage, they will grab u by the arms and pull u down. Only when u try to swing a punch, that is when they start to hit the shit out of u. By the way, this is applicable for big proper clubs such as Zouk, Butter Factory etc.

Boiler Room is not those joints that attracts the troublemakers. Have been there a couple of times and the most annoying thing is the childish adult jokes from the chow aqua pinoy lead singer. Rest of the band are OK and so are the bouncers and service staff.

Should be before Bolier Room along the complex. Cannot recall the name, start with B or M. The other one I can remember is the Chinese karaoke upstairs. Must say a good place to get quality Sinkee/FT ONS if..........
