Amazon will release Kindle 3rd Gen on 27th Aug

Even the pinoys can buy Kindle.

I SAY WE SHOULD JUST BOYCOTT STUPID AMAZON!!!

THEY THINK SINGAPORE MARKET IS TOO SMALL! NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE> PHUI!! EVEN PLACES LIKE THE HIMALAYAS -NEPAL CAN GET KINDLE DOWNLOADS N SHIPPING!!

PEOPLE OREDI DONT WANT TO SELL TO YOU, WHY LOWER YRSELF AND BEG TO USE THEIR COCKY DEVICE. :oIo:

Amazon don't sell to Singapore.

This is in their web site:

Unfortunately we are currently unable to ship kindles or offer kindle content in Singapore

The Kindle will ship to a Vpost US Address in Ohio then Vpost will ship to Singapore from Ohio.

I see. What about the wireless 3G content? It seems pointless to buy because since Kindle is not offered in Singapore, Amazon is not offering the wireless features to users in Singapore.

I've bough books from Amazon without problems. I suspect got other issues.

Maybe "big brother" problems

Probably worthless in Singapore

but quite useful in US, I have seen some people use it for email, reading the news and of course reading some books. 3G is free so you can connect everywhere you go. Of course, its mainly for textual use.

I visited Sim Lim today, Thursday 29th, & on Vdeo Pros(#05-75) price list they have Kindle models are on offer:

Kindle 6" S$409
Kindle DX 9.7" S$788

Also saw many un-authorise Apple stores selling iPads :D
They were the only ones with stocks.

wow, is un-authorised = pirate

Stuff that they brought in directly from the US. Same thing as what Mustaffa is doing. Apple warranty is global on portable units, so shouldn't be a any problems with the warranty.

However they must be charging a high premium to cover costs, or else they would have sold out. :)

I observed that there were many more stores carrying Apple products. It is an indication of the success that Apple is having.

I might get one.. Anyone else interested?

If you try ordering from Amazon.com, you will find that it is not authorised to sell to this region.

There is a similar product being sold at Kinukunia here though.

I kind of agree it is "big brother" problems - not the ang moh big brother but SG own big brother.

I would like to know what are the "issues" big papa has with the kindle:confused:

The proxy is still censoring Spore's access to the internet, so it's a puzzle there's a ban on the kindle?

Issues with MDA. All books have to go to through censor-board. Kindle bypass that and that is a big no no here.
.

I wonder if iPad users will face the same problems

I've ordered books from Amazon & never had any problems so didn't think there would be issues with books & censorship. If this is true, then Sporeans are screwed

One more reason to vote out the PAP

okay who is the one putting up leetabar pic and praising him? :D

yeah, who is the one who together with leetahbar keep dropping shit nuggets in almost all the threads with lame one-liner..

Yip Kuan Harry says:

I don't know why Amazon applies a different marketing strategy in Singapore from that of the US.

In Singapore:-

1. Audible's audiobook selections for Singapore are a much reduced subset of a larger selection that is available for the US.

2. It is not possible to buy the Kindle from Amazon directly through your account.

3. It is not possible to download Kindle books from the Amazon website even if you have a Kindle (bought in US) in your possession.

4. However, it is possible to buy any Amazon books directly, including audiobooks in CD format but not in downloadable e-format.

I don't think this marketing strategy by Amazon is based on a rational commercial decision as there is a huge demand for Kindle and eBooks in Singapore. I bet Singapore is probably a larger market than New Zealand or the Philippines, where the Kindle is available. I can't see why Amazon adopt this business attitude to Singapore, which seems to me to be irrational and strange.

Maybe there are other non-trade issues involved, such as legal or political implications. Anyway, I hope the Singapore Government look into this matter and see why is there a 'barrier to trade' on Kindle and its products.
