Ah Loong said no hike in GST if he wins

SINGAPORE - There is unlikely to be any hike in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate if the Government budgets remain prudent and the economy continues to grow, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday.

He didn't say not to GST increase. He merely said that provided the economy is good and Singapore has enough funds. As we all know, he is good in fixing statistics to justify why GST is needed once election is over. To believe in him is to believe that snake doesn't eat meat. By than, we have all been tricked.

When you control and run the Parliament like a PAP HQ with an overwhelming majority comprising yesmen, we better take what he claims (pre-election sweettalk) with more than a teaspoonful of salt.With the PAP in power all these years, one can't help but notice that everything has become more expensive; including the Ministers themselves. What goes up, never comes down! GST increase may be "unlikely" now but just wait and see.

The GST is already rather low in Singapore.

In the UK, the GST (called VAT) was 17.5% but was recently increased to 20%

In other European countries, it is as high as 22%
