Group A could well be all over by tonight if Singapore and Indonesia win again, which is very likely on form book. In Group B, Thailand should be through by tomorrow with an easy win over Laos expected. The crunch match would be between Malaysia and Vietnam, which the latter couldn't afford to lose.

But still Singapore want to top the group to avoid
meeting Thailand in the semi.

Singapore 3 Myanmar 1
Cambodia 0 Indonesia 4

Singapore and Indonesia had qualified for the semi-finals. The Singapore v Indonesia game will decide who tops the table and probably who avoids Thailand in the semis.

Check out the official AFF website at http://www.aseanfootball.org/afc/index.asp

It is pathetic. No results, no standings....nothing.

Don't Asean Football Association has any pride. keep on renaming the Asean cup after a sponsor. FIFA and UEFA don't do that to their premier competition. Asean call their cup Tiger Cup then Suzuki Cup. This sponsor name add on devalue the cup and make the whole competition sound less prestigious. make it sound like a friendly tournament.

Asean number 1 soccer tournament should be called - Asean Cup, 2 words and no more. Suzuki Cup sound like a motorcycle race cup, not a soccer tournament. They are harming their own competition name for $$, instead they should work harder to find others sponsors sources.

and those greedy man in suits, I bet if the $$ is good enough, they will call their competition - AFF Whisper Sanitary Pad Cup.

Those Thais with all the politics at home still can play

Football has always been linked to politics. The more politically charged a country, the more passionately charged is its football. The reigning Asian champions are...Iraq. Can't get anymore politically charged than there.

I agree, but what to do? The title sponsor is needed to finance the competition. ASEAN countries are poor in football finances, even including supposedly richer country like Singapore. Even in England, there's the Barclays Premier League, Coca Cola League Cup or whatever.

I understand that when Argentina hosted the FIFA World Cup in 1978, Coca Cola wanted to be title sponsor and proposed calling it the FIFA Coca Cola World Cup. Argentina was then under military rule and quite cash strap. However, FIFA managed to object strongly enough. ASEAN or AFF is not FIFA.

Club football are different. International competitions are special. The authorities should preserve their tournaments prestige by not adding it with sponsors names.
If I pay them twice more, will they rename it AFF Viagra Cup?

BTW. Fifa has betrayed us football lovers. In 1990, they promised that they will NEVER sell exclusive Fifa world cup television rights to cable TV as they believed it's their responsibility to make it free for everyone to watch.
8 years later, Fifa sold their soul to the devil.

The power of money
So many of the European FC stadiums
are name under the product's sponsor.
I would rather prefer they name the stadiums with
some football greats, more apt.

Singapore looked in great form last night against the Indonesians, both goals were good with the 2nd being a beauty:smile: Hope they go all the way.

Btw does anyone know whether the Senayan Stadium is the same as the Buang Karno Stadium (not sure of the spelling for both) as I noticed that some papers referred to the match being played at the former and some saying that it was played at the latter:confused:

Senayan is the old name. Bung Karno is the new name. It's the same stadium in Jakarta. By the way, does anyone know whether if the Kallang National Stadium still functional? If not, where will Singapore host its semi-final return-leg?

Anyway, whoever Singapore meets in the sem-final, the away leg is on Dec 17 and the return leg is on Dec 24. Wonder if Singapore supporters will take over the stadium for Christmas protest if Singapore loses, or for Christmas celebration if Singapore wins...
