In Thailand alcohol is allowed to be sold only certain time to control people getting drunk during productive time so alcohol can be sold only between 11am to 2pm and then 5pm to midnight. It does not restrict one from drinking though so people tech to pre-order and continue to drink after 2pm. Some restaurants even allow customers to buy using cash during this restricted time and then register the sale after 5pm.
This is a new one, last week went to a Japanese restaurant at 2.20pm ordered a Singha was told by a supervisor cannot sell, came another staff that I'm familiar with ask her can order beer she reply what beer, told her Singha 1 bottle she simply took the order and left.
Then came back wit this,

Par for the course, for "can do" attitude in LOS. Mine not so atas. Was in this "No Hands Restaurant" (near Suriwongse), with ladies serve you without touching utensils.
On one of those alcohol prohibition nights (election or religious, I forget). Beer came in regular, aluminium small tea pot. Lots of chong kaew:p

Twin focus could flout interim constitution
The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is expected to vote in support of a question to be added in a national referendum that could support the powers of an appointed Senate to select a prime minister.
An appointed Senate during a five-year post-election transitional period, pushed by the military regime, is a last-minute change made to the draft charter. It is seen by critics as a means during the first five years to control elected representatives.
The NLA is scheduled to consider the referendum question Thursday. NLA member Kittisak Rattanavaraha said based on an internal poll of the NLA, around 140 NLA members (about 60%) are in favour of adding the question of whether parliament, in which the selected Senate is seen to be under control of the regime, should vote to elect the prime minister during the transitional period.
He said the findings were based on an internal survey through the Line chat application.
Mr Kittisak said the question should have one focus otherwise it will contravene the interim charter which allows only a single question to be asked at the planned referendum.
"If we also include 'Should the Senate vote in a no-confidence debate?' in the questions, it could be considered as two questions," he said.
An NLA source said NLA whips have agreed the extra question which could be asked at a charter referendum scheduled to take place in early August, should be the one suggested by the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA), which is whether an appointed Senate should be allowed to select the prime minister during the post-election transitional period.
The content is seen as a challenge to the Constitution Drafting Committee's (CDC) charter draft which gives this mandate to the House of Representatives.
Politicians and pro-democracy activists are strongly opposed to the Senate selecting a prime minister. However, other NLA members on Thursday will propose different questions for the chamber to consider, the source said.The source said other possible questions include whether parliament should have a mandate to appoint or impeach cabinet members and whether parliament should have the powers to supervise an elected government.
NLA members who are expected to propose different questions include Gen Somjet Boonthanom, Gen Singsuek Singphrai, Adm Chumnoom Artwong, and Wanlop Tangkhananurak.

A jail term of up to 10 years, a fine of up to 200,000 baht and suspended electoral rights would be imposed on people found guilty of having manipulated the Aug 7 vote, Mr Jate said.
The bill recommends the courts suspend the electoral rights of violators for up to five years. For a group of five or more violators, the suspension could be for up to 10 years, he said.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said Wednesday the government would decide without delay what steps would be taken if the charter fails to pass at the referendum. In that case the interim charter would be amended to address the issue.

THE JUSTICE Ministry last week received Cabinet approval to send repeated traffic-law violators to work in morgues as part of the Department of Probation’s new effort to make probation measures more effective, especially for young offenders.
Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn said Thailand records the most number of road accidents in Asia and the second highest in the world, with the annual Songkran holiday alone recording an average of 2.3 deaths and 160 injuries every hour.
Statistics show that the number of traffic-law violators increases during Songkran, the New Year and other long holidays. Teenagers are among the most frequent repeat violators. To help increase the effectiveness of probation measures, Nonjit Netpukana, a senior official of the Department of Probation, said a green light was sought from the Cabinet to send those who commit minor offences to work at hospital morgues.
Current measures 'ineffective'
Nonjit said the current probation measures such as doing public service or community cleaning work appeared to be ineffective as evidenced by the growing number of traffic-law offenders, especially the young.
He said the new measure making them spend time in a morgue where corpses are kept before being handed over to relatives or law enforcement was expected to have an emotional impact on teenagers compared to other probation measures such as cleaning public roads or pruning trees.
The new measure can also be used for traffic-law offences after the Songkran holidays if the court issues an order, he said.
Meanwhile, health and other authorities have joined forces |to ensure that medical teams reach major road accident sites within 10 minutes, while sales |of alcoholic beverages will be strictly regulated during the Songkran holidays. Authorities have urged motorists to avoid |all alcoholic beverages while |driving and motorcyclists have been told to wear helmets at |all time.
Permanent secretary for Public Health Dr Sophon Mekthon said all medical personnel were ready to provide emergency services during the long holidays, while authorities would ensure that laws on the sale of alcoholic beverages would be strictly enforced.

Get real, this is a just a laid back place with just touristy river market plus night fall fire flies. No glitzy malls, but resort style stays to put your leg up.
Nearby there's this famous railway market with stalls parting way for the oncoming train but hear rail was closed for repairs last year.
If you there, just hop on to river boat ride along the scenic canals. And even out to bay/sea, 1st hand look at thai fishing boats (made news with seafood industry and Myanmar crew)
You can get mini bus from Victory Monument.

'Johnny Painter' stiched up for role in 'Doctor's' passport ring
Mahammad Rumzan, 57, was picked up April 8 allegedly delivering stolen passports to a forger in the Don Muang area of Bangkok. In his handbag, officers said they found four French and two Israeli passports, all genuine and reported lost. Subsequent searches of his two apartments in Min Buri and Bang Phlat districts uncovered 40 fake passports for 12 mostly-European countries, 20 watermark blocks, 91 visa stamps, and 92 bogus traveller's cheques worth 270,000 baht.

Officers also seized stitching thread, passport laminates, an embossing machine and biodata pages previously removed from travel documents.
Immigration officials accused Mr Rumzan of being the sixth member of one of the country's largest transnational passport-forgery syndicates that was headed by Iranian Hamid
Reza Jafary, better known as "The Doctor". The 48-year-old busted in Chachoengsao two months ago allegedly used a quiet, used-computer shop as a front for years.
The gang was famous for producing top-quality fake travel documents difficult for authorities to detect.
Nathathorn Prousoontorn, the Immigration Bureau commissioner, said in a news briefing on Monday that investigators had been trying to locate Mr Rumzan for weeks after The Doctor's arrest, finally getting a tip he would be making a delivery run.
Po Lt Gen Nathathorn alleged Mr Rumzan was a major supplier of stolen passports to The Doctor's gang. He also was able to do near-perfect stitching for counterfeit travel documents and was hired by the gang for 2,000-3,000 baht a book.
Mr Rumzan claimed he was forced by "the boss" to stitch the fake passports and he spent the money on apartment rent.
Police have revoked his visa allowing him to stay in the kingdom until Aug 27. He is charged with producing counterfeit travel documents and theft.
