A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand

ginfreely, recently saw you mentioned about drinking water and also something about reverse osmosis thingy. Care to recommend the best water for drinking? Ok in Thailand tap water is not safe to drink I mean directly. Many people also do not use it for cooking instead depends on water filter and like me use distilled water that comes in a huge bottle. I also heard distilled water is not good. So, what is good?

Another of my favourite dinner whipped up my the maid, typical Isaan food
You lucky guy. Gai Yang and Khao Niao. Is that Lab Moo? BTW, any receipe for Tom Saeb Gra Dook Moo? Ask your maid leh. :p

Looks good with so many dishes, the rice is with some sauce or burnt?

Because its Isaan meal tonight it comes with khao-niao (sticky rice or glutinous rice). Wife like khao-ji (typical Isaan, its cooked glutinous rice then pressed into a cake dip into fresh scrambled egg to coat it then roast it over charcoal) smells really good, so lucky I took a photo of it when it was freshly roasted during dinner tonight -

For me I prefer normal sticky rice so after cooking it typical Isaan style is to place the whole ball of cooked sticky rice into a sticky rice container as you can see in the earlier photo green container.

The dish on the left of the plate of cabbage is typical Isaan gai-yang (gai = chicken ; yang = roast) normally whole chicken is used if one eat outside but maid modified using chicken wing drumlets. By the way the small bowl at the bottom is tomyam pork rib.

Aiyoh, this type must consult johnny333, he is the expert and have been using some alkaline ionizer filter for years according to a recent post. I only read and heard abit here and there from people or TV programs. What i know is as long as not RO treated or if RO treated or like distilled water, they must add back the mineral if not no good to drink for long term.

In Malaysia, there are a few famous brands like eSpring, Diamond water, Nesh, Coway. Anyway, I didn't buy all these becos too ex for me, i only bought the cheaper version from Cosway for about Rm600. It also claims to be alkaline water filter but without electricity so I think the effect is not long lasting or as good. Here is the link to explain how this water filter worked.

Oic the cooking is so elaborate, the rice is roasted some more. I learnt quite a lot of things about Thailand from ths thread.

Using a espring at the my old office. A good product without any odour or taste and water is crystal clear but filter is quite expensive and needs electrical power supply. Suppose to last 12 months for average usage but I kiasu change every 6 months. Filtered water flow is also very slow. Took me about 15 mins to fill a 20 litre tank. Another good thing is it is space saving.

Enjoying a Hokkien song CD which I brought with me which I bought in Chinatown (Fook Leong) years ago. This CD is good to listen when drinking but all quite sad sounding songs. My favorite 2 songs in this CD are 意难忘 from 蔡小虎 and a duet by 夢醒在三更 by 蔡小虎 and 張秀卿. Those that just heart broken, don't listen.

You have to get your terminologies right first. Distilled water is different from water obtained via reverse osmosis. Both distillation and reverse osmosis are processes through which "purified water" is obtained.

Seriously. I don't know the difference between Distilled, RO and Filter Treated Water. Only know the one I get from supplier is RO water and the espring I own is filter treated water.

Ok one last song for all bros before I go to ZZzz. :) A nice duet from 蔡小虎 and 龍千玉 and the song is call 雲罩月. This one is damm good. I like the lyrics 花无百日红 (flower no hundred day red), which is very true.

Seriously I know nuts about this thing but just wanna get a good system for my home I mean a really good one that promotes good health. Can suggest or not?

Your eSpring is more than just filtered water. It has UV sterilization. Filters are there just to "block" micro-organisms; they don't kill the micro-organisms. The UV radiation, however, disrupts the chemical bonds that hold the atoms of DNA together in the micro-organisms.

Can't say good morning this morning because the whole of Taiwan kanna hit by rainstorm and landslides since wee hours.

Yes I am aware of this storm when I spoke to factory yesterday. I wonder of storm and earthquake can be related somehow. He you take care man. My supply of screws will be affected with a week delay so far and if this persists will have further delays, I worry now. Also spoken to them about the recent earthquake as I am concern both for their safety and also for my supply of products from them. Urged them to start thinking going abroad like the Japanese and don't wait for the BIG ONE to happen. This is very difficult to persuade as most are SMEs and find it hard to move. Sigh. As much as I love to open a second supply line say from China most of the good stuff still can only be made by the Taiwanese. Sigh sigh.
