“I’ll stab you, I’ll slash you!” a 25-year-old Chechen threatened to kill a woman of the same age, whom he didn’t even know, on a tram in Linz city center around 7:45 a.m. on Friday. The mentally ill man was taken into custody.
The Linz woman had previously noticed the man because he was mumbling into his beard. Then the threats began: “I’ll stab you all. The moment will come,” the suspect allegedly said.
“I don’t care if you’re children”
As schoolchildren boarded the bus at Taubenmarkt, the Chechen allegedly threatened them as well, saying: “I don’t care if you’re children.” He also allegedly threatened: “All non-Muslims will be stabbed.”
The threatened Linz woman showed nerve and alerted the police. Thanks to her good description, the suspect was arrested on Raimundstraße – near the Unionkreuzung intersection. He was unarmed. The victim also recognized him.
Unemployed and with multiple relevant criminal records
The unemployed Chechen, who has multiple relevant criminal records for numerous violent offenses, was remanded in custody at the request of the Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office. Due to his mental state, he was placed in the forensic department of the Linz Neuromed Campus. He is currently being investigated on suspicion of making a dangerous threat. According to police, he has recently attracted attention several times for talking to himself in public, according to Ulrike Breiteneder of the Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Forensic psychiatric care is used to detain suspects and criminals who are mentally ill or addicted to drugs.
