In the sports arena Singapore indeed perform below par compared to small nations such as Croatia and NZ. The population of Croatia is only 4 million but the country is a powerhouse in football, basketball, water polo and tennis.

in usa, sport is larger than life. which mean sport is more important than anything. emphasis on sport during school years.
in singapore, money is greater than life, sport is PE class for half an hour, 2 times a week, parent ask kids not to pursue sport but get toilet paper. this is the fact for many years of gov rule, then suddenly one day they decided they want gold medals to make them feel good, so they start buying FST. foreignsporttalent. so you have to ask pap , money or sport, which is more important?

Regular Uruguay also does not have a big population.
