(CNN) – A Spanish National Police investigation into two Madrid prostitution rings led to the rescue of a captive 19-year-old woman who was tattooed with a barcode on her wrist after she tried to escape the ring, authorities said Saturday.
The bar code served as a form of identity for the woman and as certificate of “ownership” by one prostitution ring, and beneath the bar code was also tattooed the amount of money she owed the ring, police said.
Held hostage by a pimp, the woman had multiple lesions from being beaten and whipped, and her head and eyebrows were shaven because she tried to flee, police said.
In all, police disbanded two prostitution rings along Madrid’s Montera Street that were operated by two Romanian nationals — an uncle and his nephew — and authorities arrested a total of 22 people, including the two relatives, in Madrid and Getafe, police said.
When the 19-year-old woman tried to escape, the uncle advised the nephew to tie the woman to a radiator and not feed her, police said.
Among items seized by authorities were three illegal firearms, numerous swords and machetes, gold jewelry, five automobiles and $185,696 in Euros, more than half of which was hidden in a double roof of the home of one ring leader, police said.
The ring leaders forced women, including underage girls, into prostitution, and members of the rings collected the money and controlled the rented floors of buildings where the women were forced into prostitution, police said.
The prostitution ring members referred to the women as “packages,” “suitcases,” or “bicycles,” police said.

SINGAPORE: A former security consultant was jailed four months on Tuesday for having sex with an underaged Vietnamese prostitute.
49-year-old Winson Chan Swee Teck was found guilty of paying the girl S$100 for her sexual services.
The girl, who is now 17 years old, cannot be named to protect her identity.
Chan is one of three men who were earlier charged for having commerical sex with the same girl.
Chan, who is divorced, had sex with her at a hotel at Lorong 28 Geylang in July 2011. This was after the girl lied that she was 20 years old and refused to show him her passport.
The first of the trio to be sentenced for the offence was a former land and estate executive with the Singapore Land Authority.
57-year-old Kum Chin Tiong, was sentenced to nine months jail in January after he pleaded guilty to paying S$100 for sex with the girl.
A third man, 55-year-old Yeo Joo Meng, a store personnel, also allegedly paid the girl between S$100 and S$130 for her sexual services.
It is an offence to pay for sex with a person under 18 years of age. If convicted, they could be jailed for up to seven years and fined.

If serious to protect the underage, then all secondary schools in Singapore must do an annual virginity checkup for all school girls under age 16. If not virgin, then must investigate, and bring the penerator to task and jail them.

Man jailed 5 years for running prostitution ring

SINGAPORE : For nearly three years, a husband-wife duo ran a ring of Vietnamese prostitutes, many of whom were underage, and lived off their earnings.
For that, 42-year-old Seng Swee Meng was jailed five years on Wednesday after pleading guilty to 15 counts of violating the Women's Charter Act.
His wife, Ngo Tien, a Vietnamese national, is still at large after she left Singapore with their their3-year-old daughter last July.
The duo recruited the women, some of them were between 16 and 17 years old at that time, from October 2008 to August 2011.
They put the women in their Geylang apartment where Seng's wife would coach the women on plying their trade.
Throughout their stay here, the pair would also take a cut of the girls' earnings, varying between S$300 and S$700 each time.
In addition, Seng and Ngo introduced the women to their friends, and ordered them to provide sexual services for their friends as well.
On one occasion, they arranged for a 16-year-old girl to have sex with Seng's friend, a 52-year-old man, for S$100.
Seng turned himself in after his apartment was raided last August which saw 30 Vietnamese women being arrested.
The court heard that Seng, who is currently unemployed, became involved in vice activities through his wife.
In his mitigation, Seng's lawyer, S S Dhillon told the court that Seng was "reluctant to be drawn into the scheme" but assisted her eventually out of "financial desperation".
He added that Seng was not the mastermind as his wife made the arrangements for the Vietnamese women to be brought into Singapore.
For receiving the women in Singapore and living off their earnings, Seng could have been jailed up to five years and fined a maximum of S$10,000 for each offence.

It is like a "UN Global code of conduct"; Singapore has to adhere to the standards of proper trafficking policing, which is an offense to have sexual relations with a minor. Failing which Singapore's reputation will drop (in terms of human trafficking, prostitution control, etc). It could also be due to such global standards that minors cannot be named to protect their identities. Many of these girls are forced into such a trade due to their bad living conditions back home. IMO, I'd say its more of "external" international pressure rather than "internal" pressure.
The men who engaged their services are suay ttm; nxt time they will surely check passports or might as well find older ladies. What to do, women's charter in force here. Personally find it unfair to persecute the men only too, but that doesn't mean bonking a minor and getting away with it is correct.

Man pleads guilty to sex with underage prostitute

SINGAPORE: A sub-contractor on Tuesday pleaded guilty in court to having sex with an underaged prostitute.
54-year-old Wee Lian Kee admitted to paying the Vietnamese girl, who was then 16 years old, S$180 for sexual services.
He is one of the six men who were previously charged with paying for sex with Vietnamese girls, aged between 16 and 17, in July 2011.
Under the law, it is illegal to pay for sex with anyone under the age of 18.
Wee, a father of three, met the girl and two other Vietnamese girls in Geylang last July.
The court heard that the girl worked as a hostess in a KTV lounge.
Wee was told that the girl was of age, and he did not verify further.
He later booked a hotel room in the vicinity and paid the girl for sex.
In mitigation, Wee's lawyer, Mr James Lee, said that his client was "careless" in trusting the girl's claim of her age.
Mr Lee added that Wee only found out about her age after he met her again and she showed him her passport.
Wee was said to be "shocked and frightened" and did not have sex with the girl after that.
Wee will be sentenced on 3 August.
If convicted, he could be jailed up to seven years and fined.
