Another animal lover yesterday offered an additional $5,000 to identify the person who threw a cat to its death from a Housing Board flat recently.
The 42-year-old academic, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was disturbed by the animal abuse reported in the papers. "If Singapore wants to become a truly First World society, we cannot act in such a cruel manner by killing animals," she said.
Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News originally reported that the incident occurred at about 9pm on Wednesday at Block 716, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, and according to residents, two other cats were thrown from the same block in April last year and in July this year.
Ang Mo Kio resident Tan See Dee (above), 48, offered the original $1,000 reward on Thursday. She had been feeding the black and white cat, known as Cheeky to residents, for two to three years.
The anonymous academic, who owns two dogs and donates to the SPCA, said since it may be a repeat offender, someone must have seen the culprit.
