When Russia withdrew from eastern Europe after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the British were wary of a resurgent Germany.
Before the war in Ukraine, Germany was the powerhouse of the EU economically.
Now imagine Germany working hand in hand with Russia, which has loads of natural resources.
Assuming the Europeans can work together, they will be the third superpower after US and China. But normally the Europeans will end up fighting one another. Hence the reason why they were demilitarised.
