Five men of Hmong origin were arrested on Wednesday night with 500,000 methamphetamine pills in their possession after narcotics suppression police gave chase to four pick-up trucks on Highway 11 in Tha Tako district of Nakhon Sawan.
Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong, the national police chief, said the seizure followed a tip-off that a drug gang would transport the drugs from Chiang Rai, possibly destined for Bangkok.
Police followed four pick-up trucks along Highway 11 and managed to stop them in Tha Tako district of Nakhon Sawan and arrested the five men. Two other suspects escaped.
In a subsequent search, the police found 500,000 methamphetamine pills with a street value of about 150 million baht in one of the trucks.
