SINGAPORE - Forty people were arrested in a joint operation at Joo Chiat and Geylang public entertainment outlets last night.

The joint operation comprised of officers from Bedok Police Division, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Enforcement checks were carried out at entertainment outlets, coffeeshops and food outlets located along Joo Chiat Road and Geylang. The arrested suspects, 40 female foreigners aged between 19 and 39, were arrested for unlawful employment offences.

The police and SCDF also conducted checks at coffeeshops and food outlets at Joo Chiat Road and Geylang.

Police officers issued summons to four coffeeshops for infringement of liquor licences. SCDF detected fire safety violations at three public entertainment outlets and a coffeeshop, and will be following up on the necessary actions.

This is part of an ongoing law enforcement effort to clamp down on unlawful activities at entertainment outlets, coffeeshops and food outlets, and serves as a warning that those who conduct such illicit activities will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

Investigation against all the suspects are ongoing.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) How Kwang Hwee, commended the officers for their professionalism and excellent teamwork which led to a successful operation.

DAC How said: "The Police will continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies in our relentless effort to clamp down on illegal activities at public entertainment outlets".
