aiya, of course there are racism everywhere - is the same in US, canada, uk, SG. In oz, there's still rednecks around thinking they are more superior. Asians will always be easy target, as there some form of stereotype they can be bullied. So - why worship Australia and dress up like them and then later feel sorry for yourself? Just be yourself - speak good english, socialise with people of all cultures, enjoy life, go to the pub, sports etc etc.
It is important to celebrate the differences in culture. It is not just the food, but the different work cultures and the high quality ideas generated from non-British origins.
Most people do not go round looking for evidence of racism, except for a few loser Indians who seems to be so concerned about it.
There is one high-caste Indian who jumped through all the loopholes to come to Australia and found a job.
But he looks down on Asians, esp Malaysian Tamils and sucks up to the Whites. Except those Whites are 2nd Gen Italian and Croatian migrants themselves, but he cannot tell the difference, yet.
Pity him. He is always very kahn-cheong while all of us are relaxed.
One problem with gold-digging migrants who should not be here and try all kind of tricks to migrate here. Their behaviors become very low-class because they have no respect for the laws. (My over-generalised opinion)
He like to ask questions about how to get cheap big houses and nice cars. All in the name of showing off to his mother-in-law visiting. First to the buffet queue only to be disappointed at the food. Like to give out false information to throw others into the wrong tracks.
For a guy, he is seriously petty, with all the little tricks.
People are saying things behind his back. Soon, I think he will call all of us Racist.
Do not do to others what you do not want others to do to you.
After settling down in a new country, I was so happy and still very happy. Not sure why he wants to carry unnecessary burden of kaisu-ism. I do not like some Aussie attitudes but it is their other attitudes of tolerance and fairplay that I find most important. Even the Indians know and keep exploiting.
------ additional notes ------
Remember the ABC comedy called the Librarians. Noticed how the Librarian openly chose and employed a less qualified goofy bimbo rather than the qualified MALE lebo. It would be looked at sexism or racism.
There is another with the Aussie telling the Poms that he is not welcomed because he is not one of them. The Pom started sobbing and the audience laughed.
But the point is. They do not go around the bushy on this.
It is like someone asking me if I want to live in a bad suburb or be at the metrosexual-fueled party.
Something simple-minded islanders have difficulties comprehending.
A South African asked me why an African symbol, the Lion, is the symbol of Singapore.
Reply: It all started with a mistaken identity!!! and Singapore has been living with it since
