This is to share my problems I have with the 3DS authentication for on-line purchase implemented by Monetary Authority of SINgapore to the banks here in SINgapore.
I made a on-line purchase with vendor lets say 'A', which I have no problem, all the time till the 3DS was implemented.
My VISA card is with xxx Bank, the system now is, you make a purchase on-line, the bank will text message the password for the 3DS authentication.
I didn't know or forgotten that it was implemented:
Day 1
I click on line purchase with vendor A, usually, a conformation screen comes on and that's just it.
Now, I am redirected to VISA authentication screen, a password is sent to my mobile number, I have to key in that numeric password before 3 mins is up.
The key in was unsucessful, I tried again, before I key in the given password, I noticed that the vendor name was wrong & the amount was wrong.
I cancelled transcation & terminated, but was log out, and unable to do transaction for the next 10 minutes.
I gave up.
Day 2
Log in, key in the information needed by vendor A, got redirected to VISA AUTH, key in the given numeric password, the screen said wait.... after 5 minutes, I was timed out and the transaction was unsucessful.
What is the damn use of the 3DS system to inconvenience the user?
1. The numeric password sent to the mobile phone, what if your line is faulty or suspended?
2. The time taken from the server to your mobile phone, depending on traffic, takes at lease 1 minute, you look at the password & key in another minute, & transmission to server on-line, depending on traffic, takes more than a minute...by that time you are log out.
3. Vendor A uses an outsource Vendor B, for their payment & authentication, so, from Vendor A server to vendor B server to the Bank, to VISA, the to & from, takes time, resulting in time out.
What is the bloody use of this 3DS?, don't we have already secure 128bit authentication & other?, why must we be inconvenience?
Using an on-line payment by bank card, whatever card?
Anyone have an encounter, and wish to share & is you have not encountered it yet...just beware.
