373 S'poreans infected with HIV in first 10 months of 2010

SINGAPORE : About 373 Singaporeans were infected with HIV from January to October this year, bringing the total number of HIV cases in Singapore to 4,777.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it expects the total number of new HIV cases for this year to come close to that of last year's figure of 463.

Of the 169 cases reported between January and June this year, about 60 per cent of the cases had late-stage HIV infection.

And of these, about 90 per cent were men and the rest, women.

Sexual transmission remains the main mode of HIV transmission.

Of the 169 cases reported in the first six months of this year, 166 acquired the infection through the sexual route, with heterosexual transmission accounting for 56 per cent of infections, homosexual transmission acounting for 33 per cent of infections, and bisexual transmission 9 per cent. One was infected through intravenous drug use.

The MOH has urged those at risk of HIV infection and those who engage in risky sexual behaviour to go for regular HIV testing.

221 persons died in accidents, 10,760 were injured, totalling 10,981. Fatal traffic accidents cost 190 million SGD. HIV does not mean die, can still work and contribute to GDP. Also, typical Singaporean lifetime income over 35 years and making 24K a year is still 840K only. So, what is the big deal? I thougt our leeders are hard cold statistic people, not guniang moaners over a pennies and morons over dollars, rite? Since we blow billions in investment, why not invest in HIV curing medicine to win Singapore more billions?

Understand where you are coming from. If we take away the socially enforced stigma and public shaming, is the discomfort any worse from the doctor telling you you have leukaemia or 4th stage cancer? Magic Johnson, the HIV fucker, is still around, and lucky him, still with millions, after 19 years from his diagnosis. In Africa, no need worry about HIV. Cholera, dysentry and parasitic diseases kill you faster than HIV. HIV needs to line up to kill you as the Reaper's weapon.

With record number of 3rd world immigrants & filthy angmo rejects flooding the small island bringing their diseases not unlike the bubonic plaque rats of the dark ages, I am surprised the HIV/STD statistics are not substantially higher, like 1-in-3 sporns infected by some sort of infectious disease by now.
