KUALA LUMPUR - Participants of an impromptu drug party were so caught up with their fun that, when there was a knock at the door, they opened it and invited the new guests to join in. The men at the door were policemen. They then arrested 35 people at the drug party held at a service apartment in Jalan Pudu Ulu here. Four girls were among six college students in the party. The 35, aged between 18 and 30, were nabbed in a unit on the 18th floor of the apartment block located near Menara PGRM early yesterday morning.
Police seized 21 Ecstasy pills along with several grammes of Eramin 5, ganja, ketamine and syabu when they raided the unit at 4am. Cheras deputy police chief Super-intendent Abdul Rahim Hamzah Othman said a man in his 20s had befriended several people at a discotheque in the city centre and invited them to the apartment. "The group then invited several friends who brought more people to the apartment. While guests arrived with drugs and alcohol, others brought a mobile DJ console to liven up the party.
"As the crowd grew, the music got louder and other tenants complained to the building owner, who alerted the police," Supt Abdul Rahim said, adding that beer and liquor were also seized at the unit. He said the three police officers and nine other personnel from the district narcotics department were "welcomed" to join in the party. "The group was intoxicated but co-operated with the police during the raid. After the on-the-spot drug test, 29 males and four females tested positive," he said. He added that all the college students including the four girls tested positive.
He said the group was being remanded until Monday and police were investigating under Section 39 (A)(i) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. None of those arrested have previous criminal records.
