3 arrested for theft of bicycles

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested three men aged 21 to 42 for suspected involvement in a series of bicycle theft cases at the vicinity of Stadium MRT Station and Stadium Walk.
On Feb 18 at about 1pm, officers from Bedok Police Division were performing anti-crime rounds when they spotted two subjects behaving suspiciously at the bicycle bay at the vicinity of Stadium MRT Station.
One of them was observed to be cutting the bicycle lock using a cutter while the other stood nearby, acting as a look-out. Both suspects were arrested.
On the same day at about 3.30pm, another group of officers from Bedok Police Division spotted another subject meddling with the bicycle lock at the bicycle bay at the vicinity of Stadium Walk. The subject was trying to break the chain lock from the restraint. The suspect was also arrested.
Investigations against the three suspects for Theft of Bicycle under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 are on-going. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects is responsible for at least three cases of bicycle thefts at the vicinity. If convicted, the suspects may be jailed for up to three years, or with a fine, or both.
According to a police statement, the public is reminded to secure their bicycles with durable locks and to park their bicycles in lighted areas.
