SOME 33,000 Singapore households turned to ComCare for help as of last December - a jump of 47 per from a year ago, due to the economic downturn.

The number of cases are the highest ever.

Many of them who turned to Comcare for help had lost their jobs or taken pay cut.

And of the $77 million set aside for Comcare programmes in the last financial year, $51 million of the budget has been used.

Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, who disclosed these figures on Wednesday, said the budget for the new financial year has not been set.
