20. 1981 Mercedes-Benz SEC©Classic & Sports Car
The SEC was the first coupé derived from the Mercedes S-Class saloon and it made full use of that car’s engines and technology
As well as equipment such as airbags and ABS anti-lock brakes, the 126-series SEC’s lines were spot on, thanks to a 10cm (4in) shorter wheelbase and its pillarless side-window design.
Buyers queued up to order the Bruno Sacco-styled coupé and the majority went straight to the top of the line to choose the 500SEC.
When the 560 version was added in 1985, that took over as the favourite among Mercedes’ well-heeled coupé customers.
